I know, don't get ahead of ourselves and all that, but seriously how good a brand of football is this team playing? Hard, tough and some really smart stuff too. To win by the best part of 10 goals in pretty ordinary conditions was top shelf. Pettigrew's hit on Hayes, Chaplin's job on Riewoldt, some of that opening up of the F50 in the third was superb. Chad is dominating all over the ground, the Monolith is stirring. I could go on ... early days, but I think we're entitled to allow ourselves a little bit of excitement and some credit to the team and coaching staff. It's a :thumbsu: from me.

Guys, I am just watching the replay now in Sydney.

Any thoughts on the Burgoyne Jr bump on Hayes?

It was Grew that injured him, unless you mean another bump. Perfect bump.

Could be nothing, could be 2 games. He did go in pretty recklessly but Hayes being slung at him contributed to the contact.

Hayes didn't have his head over the ball, but he didn't really have any way to defend himself either.

Looked average but they could decide its just a football collision if we get lucky.

Good win but seriously how pathetic are St Kilda, so much for being one of the best in Victoria. It shows how good Victorian football is.

Great win to port! Good team effort and superbly played to the conditions! They really looking to be the surprise packet early in the season.

Would you say the coaching staff would have a lot to be congratulated about. St kilda seemed to lack structure an try to play dry weather footy overusing the ball.

We are playing exciting football. The kids are playing exciting football. The old heads are playing good football. We are entitled to be happy with how ou season is going at the moment. Will we keep it up? Dont know. But the signs are there that we are putting together a good team.

Yeah fair call... it puts our (mighty Lions) win against them couple weeks back into perspective.

The Saints were poor, but the Power forced them to play that way. We were hard and tough at the ball, and tackled right until the final siren. So much pressure was applied, that combined with the weather, the saints couldn't do much.

Having said that, Port's skills were absolutely amazing considering the conditions.

A finals appearance this year and it will be considered successful, that was the ultimate goal at the at the start of the year and it should remain so, whatever happens once we make it (I'm getting confident we will) is a bonus. This year will be considered 100% succesful if we make the finals and get some finals experience into the squad. Then next year will be the first year where we'll be expected to improve, make the finals and start looking to go deep into september.

We played very well tonight against a good team albiet with a lot of backline injuries. The pressure and smart play in wet weather is what did in the other team. You could see when it was about even in the second and we decided to just move the ball on at all costs where we were ****ing around with handballing and hitting targets before that.

Tonight's game was enjoyable in all kinds of ways, a total team effort where not even Lonie was a passenger, and maybe the most entertaining wet weather game I can think of.

Having said all that, we had no opposition whatsoever. St Kilda are Richmond, sans the whimsy.

I don't think we can blame unattractive football on spare seats anymore (granted, there were reasons tonight.)

I thought last week was one of the most enjoyable games i've seen all year. The umps just let the small stuff slide.

If it weren't for McLaren i might think the same of tonights game too.

Oh and seriously... as fantastic as Chad was, I was hoping for Harvey to get the ANZAC medal. An absolute goddamn hero in impossible circumstances, with no help at all, i.e. closer to the Dardenelles than anyone else out there tonight.

When did this all happen? I was there and I dont remember even seeing it. It wasn't the first 20 minutes of the game while I was queued waiting for a ticket cause the bloody AAMI computer was down was it?

Is it Shaun or Peter? Rucci has pointed the finger at Peter in his report.

Why would Rucci point the finger at one of our players? There are some people in Adelaide who think he's biased in favour of us.

Probably hoping they'll charge the wrong player and throw it out on technicalities.

Definitely Shaun but will be one for the lawyers. Threw himself at the player/ball/huddle on the ground just like everybody else had done all night, but Hayes was being tackled at the time and collided with shoulder/ upper chest/ head type area. Not sure if his injury was a result of Shaun or the original tackle or both. One for the lawyers

One thing for sure though and that is he had not run in at full pelt like some of the suspensions in the past as it was a ball up type contest with all the players near each other.

As mentioned in the other thread, this year is starting to resemble 2001 in so many ways.

A lot of the kids that were given runs over the last couple of years seem to have grown an extra leg and are playing commanding roles in the side. The next generation - Salopek, Ebert, White, Junior, Surjan , Pettigrew etc, all seem to have come on fantastically and our elder statesmen are standing tall and giving fine examples to the new batch of rookies coming through.

Another resembling feature is that the way it looks at present, just as in '01 the last of the passengers had been cleared out, it seems that the same situation is happening this year with every man out there committed to putting his body on the line for Port Adelaide.

If you wanted to draw yet another comparison, we got under the guard of most teams in '01 and got off to a fantastic start ( 6 - 1 from memory before dropping the game here to Collingwood ) which set us up for a great tilt at the finals. With a few relatively soft games coming up let's hope it really is a case of history repeating itself, or, pardon the pun, lightning striking in the same place twice.

I haven't watched the first half again yet, will keep an eye out for it. But apart from the usual BF fuelled hysteria, Rucci is the only journo who appears to have made detailed reference to that particular clash. Not for the first time either, no matter what our carrion eating friends up the road may like to think.

HELL YER!!! Looks like even if the crows win I think we will stay 3rd on the later!! A week before the freo game, they were tipping us for the wooden spoon - Yer Right, like wtf would they know - not our club thats for sure!!

I'am excited - have been all year - my plates on my car are PORT 07 - and I have the 04 premiership ones on hold.......but I might just hang onto 07 now, as this is the turning point again in our mighty history!!!

I was at the Force game last night, so had my mate Jeaks sms me the scores all match - I couldnt believe it :D, match is on fox at 10am, cant wait to watch it!!!

Nah, there'd be no point. crows supporters never notice when he drops us in it, they're too busy ruminating over his every word about them to decipher the hidden slights - let alone when he does drop a bomb on them. I suspect they have their own Rosetta Stone for Rucci's writings.

He's done it to us before. I think he likes to be the guy who saw something first, whether something was there to be seen or not.

It was a good win - but we must keep it in perspective with the quality and depth of St Kilda on the night. We did all that was required and to a great standard with terrific application and effort.

The way the whole squad is going, there is potential (shocking word) for it to become our best ever!! The development so far has confounded most watchers and perhaps even those at the club - but like the boy with the wheelbarrow - the job is still in front of us.

I think that the hardest decisions will come at the end of the year - who are going to be the unlucky 3 (minimum) to be delisted and how are we going to keep the non-current 22 happy, remembering that a lot of them are from interstate.

From what I saw of the bump, Hayes was low to the ground when Shaun bumped him. It looked like it would have been hard for Shaun to bump him any lower then what he did, and so compared to other bumps I think it will be deemed as reckless and he will probably get two games :(

Great win in tough conditions, but the test will come when we play Geelong and Sydney. We were unable to overcome the tactics used by Adelaide, hopefully we should get a better idea of where we are when we play one of the top sides.

In a way I will be glad if Wilson and Shaun miss some games to give some of the other guys like Thomson a go. Although losing Shaun and Wilbur obviously is a big blow for us.
