Workable plan or bin fodder?

From the North board

Going along a line I think Michele may have come up with I would like to see the Bulldogs and North offer three game memberships to each others home games. The clubs could lobby the AFL to schedule a Bulldogs home game on the same day North were playing interstate and vice-versa. After the game maybe they could open one of the function rooms and fans of both clubs can watch the interstate game on a big screen TV.

They could name the memberships after someone who has played for both clubs (who is not called Keenan ).

Both clubs would have to make sure that there was no inference that the clubs were merging or anything like that, merely a statement by fans that both clubs are here to stay in their own right.

Any thoughts?

The Gary Cowton Membership? The Jose? The Libba? The Ray Huppatz (he went to North didn't he)?

I'm not against the Dempsey membership but I think the risk is that there would be no way you could do it without it looking like a pre-cursor to a merger. For fans of other clubs, it would just add to their arguments that we should merge.

If someone holds the view that a merger is inevitable, then this would be a logical lead in. But for those who would be totally against a merger, I think they would rightly fear this.

And, to declare my own thoughts on this for those that haven't seen my previous statements on this issue, I would prefer merger to extinction or dropping to a lower League. From previous discussions we have had, I appear to be in the minority.

Not sure if that exact idea is the way to go, but perhaps something between the clubs could be worked out.

Surely two clubs sharing some infrastructure and costs would be better economic sense then each doing it on its own. They could share training footy's and the like!! hehe In all seriousness, there must be some way the two clubs could work together to reduce costs or increase income for both.

Could be seen as a step towards merger i suppose, but i would think that merger is the exact thing such actions are aimed at avoiding.

Any way of increasing membership revenue is worth considering.
The AFL keep telling clubs like the Bulldogs and the Kangaroos to come up with imaginative solutions to their problems. I think its a good idea.

And I also like Sigs idea of sharing some facilities with North. Arent North just about to move to new facilities maybe something could be worked out.
