Today's Herald Sun: Riewoldt not in Pies sights

The last paragraph is what irks me. "Riewoldt's management plans to open talks with Saints, but the star's friendship with sacked coach Grant Thomas has fuelled talk he may look elsewhere."

Lord knows there's going to be speculation about out-of-contract Nick, but it's disheartening to think that GT could be a factor...

What's the talk in Melbourne?

Oh When the Saints

GT and Riewoldt had coffee together two weeks ago, and as far as I am aware, Thomas would be doing everything he can to convince Riewoldt to stay at the Saints.

I think you will find that GT now holds a "Player Manager" accreditation. What that means, who knows?

Well Ricky Nixon is ok, but Ron Joseph has been known to spread rumours about his clients having talks with Collingwood so they can get bigger contracts from their current clubs.

GT is Saints through and through, why would he encourage Roo to go anywhere else? If anything, the association would be positive for Saints!

I don't think we've got anything to worry about with Nick leaving and as the above two posters have indicated if Thommo has any role whatsoever in the decision making process that can only be a good thing for us. He bleeds red, white and black and surely wouldn't advise Nick to change clubs.

I really think GT a breath of fresh air on SEN too.

He wouldnt want to go, he is IMO one of the most valuable players. He could be deadly at any club. Imagine if say west coast got him. With judd and kerr on your chest disposle he could spray half his kicks at goal and still kick 10. We would want to do whatever we can to hold him as he is football royalty

Some facts:

1. Grant Thomas holds no ill-will towards the St Kilda Football Club. He has tipped us every week in the paper and continues to talk us up. Only expert in The Age to tip is for the flag pre-season. Has said he wouldn't coach anywhere else. Thomas won't be telling anyone to leave St Kilda.

2. Captains generally don't leave clubs. Since the draft system and the abolition of clearances, the only club captain I can recall moving was Leigh Colbert (I am willing to be corrected on this). Since 2000, no AFL captain has left their club (this also applies to Chris Judd).

In reality, Dal Santo much more of a chance to leave than Riewoldt.
