I can't figure this out. Bracken behind Brett Lee is our best one day bowler and while I know one day cricket and test cricket are different things but Bracken has done a pretty good in the five test his played plus he as a pretty good figures in first class cricket. Common sense says that this guy should be joining Lee and Clarke in the test side and while I hate to see a complete NSW bowling attack with MacGill as spinner I think he is the most deserving replacement.

The same reason Clark isn't in the One Day team, doesn't suit his bowling.

I'd certainly give him a go. He looks a much better bowler than when he played against India 3 or 4 years ago and he brings experience and variation to the bowling attack.

I rate Hilfenhaus but I think he needs another season before he's totally prepared for test cricket and I wouldn't want Tait and Lee in the same team, especially now that the spinner will be less reliable.

Been tried and tested and utterly failed at test level.

He needs the ball to swing appreciably to be effective in the longer form of the game. When the ball gets older, or playing on flat tracks, he is incapable of making breakthroughs.

Just watch his series against India in '04 and you'll see how ineffective he can be. Note his selection was based on a great ODI series against them. Selectors won't make the same mistake twice.

He's only reall effective while the ball is swinging. After that his pace is not threatening and he doesn't have the bounce of a McGrath or generally even the accuracy of Clark when he plays tests.

Brakcen is succesful in ODI becuase he changes his pace well. In Tests changing pace doesn't work as mcuh because batsman don't go for big shots as often.
