Based on standard you would have to say that the tac cup is stronger. Any tac team would beat a school football team, purely based on depth. A tac cup club goes 22 deep, where as the stronger school teams go to about 15.
The advantage of school football is the attitide of the players. Playing at first 18 level is an achievement and anyone who runs out onto the field is playing for the pride of their school. Even when they are on scholarships, all players are aware of the rivarly between schools. This may be a bit controversial but I would say most would rate an aps or agsv premiership over a tac cup grand final.

tac cup is much higher...most school teams will have about 5 tac cup players playing...while in tac you are playing against 22 tac players...pretty obviously tac cup is better

Agreed, but there are a lot of private school kids who would be playing tac cup if they didn't go to those schools. Clubs like Sandy and Oakleigh only select a certain number of tac players because they know they will only have them for limited matches.

school simply takes priority... i doubt it alot if someone wanted to play school footy over TAC cup, it plays a big role if the player is on scholarship, then they simple have to play school footy!!

ok thanks... fair enough if they r on a scholarship.. but if not they should be able to play where they want! being made to play a lesser standard of football the year before theyre drafted is just cr*p

good discussion.
tac listed players who are at private schools probably play half the tac cup season (somewhere between 8 and 10 games at tac cup).
is it ideal? well it seems a decent compomise. beats hearing stories of kids who play 40 + matches in a season with midweek school footy and tac weekends.
fair to say some school teams and competitions are stronger, the kids there are probably less disadvantaged than the ones at weaker football schools.
well its obvious that TAC cup is a better standard than School footy.
But i think the real issue is that players who have come through playing school footy since year 5 in the APS develop strong bonds with there school team and intense rivalry between schools. The final year of school footy means alot to blokes and we have seen over the years that plently of the top players would rather run out on Saturday with there mates and team of 6 or so years than play with a team of strangers who are just trying to get the attention of scouts rather than play for ther team.
School teams have a far better sense of self worth.
Football isn't just about skill.
Its about traditions, being a part of something intagible that TAC will never ever come close to. Its about true leadership and playing for something you believe in. Your mates are a big part of that.
Cant forget that alot of these boys would of been there since under 15s together and developed as a squad, surely they would be mates.
School football does have a lot more passion and spirit though.

metro TAC cup footy teams sound a bit different to country teams then... i can tell u there is alot of passion and spirt in some of the country teams!! but yes i can see wat u mean by the boys playing together since u15s, their for it meaning alot more to them than just goin to play TAC cup
but i ther r a few convincing arguements in favour of playing school footy that you cant really go past;
1/ TAC is designed to expose scouts to talent and every bloke out ther is trying to do what they can to impress the people watching. While on the otha hand school footy has more a sense that your playing for the blokes around you and your team, not a draft pick...
2/ The rivalry in school footy is so intense in the APS, your been playing against the same bloke for 5 or 6 years and when ur playing at the top level of school we can see these rivalry shown, i just cant see this same kind of sense of rivalry and journey in TAC cup
3/ School pride. When you don the jumper of your given 1st XVIII its an honour and a very respectable achievement. Most of the school teams hav been around 120+ years and to be part of such a club or team is part of a long traditon. Im not saying TAC isnt a honour but surely it cant be so traditonal or mean as much, school is such a huge part of your life and your senior year only comes once. Afta school you will most likely play for different clubs but just like TAC i cant see it as meaning as much.

TAC the players play for themselves. it is a better standard but i rekon Haileybury was beaten last year by 2 sides and they were basically a TAC side. well bought from TAC sides. i think that the TAC doesnt have the pride and passion to play for the team come pared to school football (with an esception of haileybury)

yeah its a good competition with a lot of pride on the line and passion when playing for the team you have been with for 5 years. except haileybury last year purchased 22 players (when only allowed 3 on the bench) to be a good team, they started doing this 5 or so years a go. before this they were pathetic. during years,7,8,9 and 10 they were dominated by over 100 points each game. then they became good. by paying players to go to their schools. it created competition but they buy to many as they are all purchased not giving many other from the same school and opportunity nor many other teams chance to win.
