Eagles supporters,
Being in London and missing the whole Fletcher saga (which I have now be filled in on), I mistakenly picked him for my dream team.
Can anybody tell me how close he is to a recovery and playing again (or direct me to an appropriate thread)? He is burning a hole in my salary cap!
Thanks.
He's fit to play, played for Subi (i think) last week, I think he will come in this week.

EDIT: Nah, i won't mislead you. I feel bad because you asked so politely.
Fletcher should be back in the squad in the next 1-3 weeks. But he's probably not worth the salary cap in your dreamteam. He's not the player he used to be.
Who will he come in for? I'm not a huge fan of Fletch and don't see anyone in the current 22 that would move aside for him.

If you've got plenty of trades I'd look to trade him... specifically to Luke Power. Will give you 20k or so too.

Thanks Eagles. He will be moved on by Friday!

The only person I can see him coming in for is Matty Priddis, but that wouldn't be just, would it?

"He is an All-Australian player so that would probably put him in our best 10 or 15 players," Worsfold said.
Back in 2004 he would have been in our top 5. A lot has changed since then. After he became AA, it may be just me, but he did appear to be more cocky. Maybe all the attention goto him. He tried to be too cute while playing, rather than just doing what he used to do and over the years it has seem to stick with him.
In 2004 his disposal was awesome by foot, it still is but only in patches now. Id choose him any day over priddis, rosa and hurn to pinpoint a pass to a leading forward.
Don't bag him because he is an outside reciever and doesnt do some of the in and under work, its not his role and hes one of the best at what he does. IMO hes still a gun and can easily get back into AA form but needs to wipe his smirk on his face and get back to doing the simple things.
Its upto you Fletch.
Also, i hate Fletcher playing as a HFF or anywhere near the F50. He should only be played in the middle and coming of HB where he was so effective as an AA. Our Fab four used to be Judd, Cousins, Fletcher, Kerr. If Fletcher gets back to some great form, it'll only be scary for the opppostion once Cousins, Bulter & Nico gets back. I love our Midfield, its bloody Inspirational!!!

i think it was more attention from opposition team. in 2004 he still made errors by foot but no one seemed to say anything. 2005 was a very good year, unit a fade out towards the end, but still it was a very good year. dont forget pridis and rosa run around without an opponent for most of the game getting easy kicks. with the attention all on judd and kerr, bringing back fletch i think will release some of the workload on these 2 players shoulders.
In Fletch's case the saying 'Never give a sucker an ever break' has never been so true
Got injured at the wrong time, and now with the youngsters doing well in his absence he's struggling to displace them now

He's not the player he used to be??
The last game he played was fantastic. He would have been 2nd or 3rd best on ground in the Grand Final.
He had 35 touches in the WAFL on the weekend.

Poor timing for the injury but he may have to bide his time. No wonder we are winning so well because there is so uch depth that is in form in the WAFL that blokes are busting their gut to keep their spot.
All good for us and our results but tough on some individuals. Jaymie Graham, Mitch Brown, Lecras, McKenzie, Spangher (until injured), etc are killing them also but can't get back in.
It is a long season though and injuries and form fluctuations all play a part.
Hope Fletch etc keep it going and grab their opportunities.
Rosa will be the player to make way. Put ya house on it.

Fletcher used to be part of our super-midfield. Racked up 30-possession games every week back when 30 possessions was something to brag about (as opposed to these days where its nearly the norm for midfielders to get 30 touches).
These days his weaknesses get exposed and opponents drag him forward where he's lost. His 2005 grand final was embarrassing. When he gets the ball everyone holds their breath, odds are he'll turn it over by foot and defensively he is seriously lacking. Last year he kept his spot in the squad largely on the back of his reputation rather than on field performances.
In 2006 he was consistently touted as the most expendable of our midfielders should we target a KPP in the trade period and some viewed his skills nearly on par with Rojo.
Like I said, not nearly the player he used to be. And WAFL means nothing. Many a dud on our list looked like a superstar at WAFL level.

He isnt. 22 of those touches were dicky handballs, he still cant kick over a jam jar.
RoJo's kicking is better than Fletchers at this moment.
Now thats saying something!
Dare I say it............Trade bait?

Big call Big man but with Rosa butler and Mcnarmara comming through not a bad option. he'll be 28 in August and yes his best footy is past him. he needs three games to get to 150. he may just become a wooden and sit on the playing list but not play.

Haha! Yeh well, someone has to stick up for him and it's kinda my duty as his sponsor

left out for the game against the bulldogs...
Leaving him in the WAFL for a few more weeks will help reduce his ego. He now knows he must perform to keep his spot rather than on reputation. Good call Woosha & Match Committee.

And hopefully improve his kicking.

I've always admired fletcher, he was underrated and now many say he is overrated but he gets on with it and isn't as bad as people make him out to be. His disposal has improved again, it used to be spectacular and i think he is very useful in the midfield, moreso then when he plays up forward, he is a natural midfielder.
