View Full Version : Port Adelaide V Collingwood gurnsey issue.
Irrespective of the issue relating to whether Port Adelaide will wear their black and white guernsey for Heritage week, I think it is generally accepted that the Port "Prison Bars" jumper is a far more impressive-looking gurnsey than the Collingwood stripes.
The Port prison bars jumper has far more "character" than the very bland and relatively un-imaginative basic stripes of the Collongwood strip.
I wonder what the general football community think?
Port have been wearing the black and white stripes well before collingwood.
Can't understand why collingwood couldn't come up with their own stripes instead of stealing from another club.
Collingwood should just wear pink and get on with it. :thumbsu:

Agree the prison bars look better...goes with their history and demographic well. And they did have the guernsey before Collingwood too

Hard to comment unless you take up Eddies kind offer and wear it in heritage round

Why exactly is it Eddie and Collingwood's decision anyway? If Port are the home team, they should wear whatever guernsey they deem appropriate, and if Collingwood are the visiting team and the jumpers are too similar then its the Pies duty to find an alternative.
Happens in local football, happens in sports worldwide.

hmmmm we played st kilda last week and got 26,000 but dont let facts get in the way mate.

Yeah big.. so that means more then half of Victorian teams pull lower crowds then port even when there are 2 Victorian clubs. We have nothing to worry about. Our crowds will go up in the not so distant future.. whereas some Vic clubs may have to move on.
you're lucky you play the crows in showdown otherwise you would never get a crowd over 20,000
Hahaha you idiot! We have only ever got a crowd under 20,000 once. :D
We will always have 25,000 passionate people there each week. Which is about the same amount with Crows aswell.. the rest are just bandwagoners.
If the Power didn't whine nobody would talk about them

exactly 26k is pathetic. Better be careful or they might ship you off to the goldcoast

Hows that pathetic?? once ever is very good considering victorian clubs do it week in week out.
exactly 26k is pathetic. Better be careful or they might ship you off to the goldcoast
25,000 every week will keep a club going financially for centuries. Nothing wrong with a crowd like that. It's nto as if we get that every week anyway that was last years average crowd. As our performances improve so will our crowds like every club.. it's just that we will always have 25,000 passionate port people there every week.
If the Power didn't whine nobody would talk about them
HUH??
****en crack up coming from a Collingwood supporter.
They both look like shit.

....and this, I believe is at the heart of the matter. Of course the Power should be allowed to wear their black and white jumper during heritage week celebrating the 1970's. But I also believe it should not become a regular occurance, and the AFL should only allow them to wear the prison-bars once.
The AFL need to be careful to protect the image and the branding of each club, and they also need to be careful to make sure a club that stuggles to get 35,000 people to a local darby match cannot ride on the coat-tails of bigger, better clubs.
The Power knew when they entered the AFL that they must change their traditional colours and even their name, and the Power should not be allowed to slowly erode these conditions of entry.

As someone who is obviously new to these guernsey arguments, I will forgive your ignorance.
However, you should be educated should you choose to open your foolish mouth on this matter on another occasion.
Collingwood began wearing black and white stripes in 1892. Port began wearing black and white stripes in 1902.
1892 is before 1902, champ, but thanks for playing.
