View Full Version : Why Boo Aker?

I am the USA's biggest West Coast Supporter - of course I have lived here in Perth for 12 years. What I want to know, is, why was Aker getting booed everytime he came within a bull's roar of the ball?
IMO, he has been the biggest breath of fresh air in this whole Nazi State known as the AFL. He speaks his mind, tells the truth, and doens't sweat the consequences. We need more people like that in the league.

I didn't boo him, but
Why not?
I have always liked him and would never boo him at a game, but I can see why some people would (and obviously do) - he can be very damaging and players like that always cop it from the crowd; plus he speaks his mind in the media which upsets some people.
I was a bit pissed actually that he got booed, because I think we need more people like him in our game otherwise it would be so boring.

He was booed because he has been shooting his mouth off in the media about Cousins
Honestly, he gets booed because he's Aker.
I boo him because he's Aker.
I love Aker.
Make of that what you will.

His arrogance, big mouth and the way he left Brisbane also haven't won him many fans either

:D
That's probably the best explanation you'll get from anyone on why they boo anyone or anything, most of the time.
Booing is not a rational thing, it's a primeval instinct to make some sort of noise without ever knowing why. Or even caring why :)

I just wish he'd been booooooooooed 35 times!

Because he once got suspended for punching Kerr.

yes, but there's probably plenty of players who'd like to do that.
Why not. We booed Fevola too.

And they'll get booed too, damn it.
Another example of the world wide vilification of redheads.:thumbsd:
The crowd always seems to boo/heckle those sorts of players (big personalities that can also really do some damage) who often get beaten on the day which compounds the situation! Mouthing about Cousins probably didnt help but Aker usually gets it anyway.

A lot of people around us were giving it to Acker and when I asked why, not that I was complaining, can`t stand him, they said it was because of the press thing about Ben. Sounded fair enough to me, I was annoyed when I read it too.
Think that it speaks volumes about that man when he said on the Footy Show just before his 200th (?) game, that not one person from the Lions had contacted him to wish him well. IMHO he should put his brain into gear before he spills his rubbish.

Very true, we thought he was going to came and play like he did 6 years ago - bursting out of the centre and kicking goals on either side from 50. That's not the case now - he is getting caught all the time and his decision making and disposal has been very dissappointing.

Hug a ranga today!
I booed because of peer pressure. Everyone else was doing it, I thought it was cool. I wasn't strong enough to go against the flow.
But the thing was, once I tried it once, I kinda liked it you know? So I went back for more. Now it's become a habit, my school grades are slipping, I've starting booing my parents when they talk to me, i'm not sure where this is going to lead. :(

More blokes in the AFL should speak there mind like him.

especially a team like us though. We should support our fellow crucified-by-the-media ones.
Plus he played crap

Aker is a great player, but in my eyes comes across as a whining loser. I just find it hypocritical to judge one of our players when during his time at the Lions, his own behaviour was questionable.
Deserved to be booed because of his comments regarding Cousins.
His arrogance, big mouth and the way he left Brisbane also haven't won him many fans either
I have never considered Aker arrogant..only straight forward and honest..unfortunately a lot of people really dont like honest people!! I would believe anything Aker said way before some others playing or in the media......I really hope he doesn't get booed when Lions play Bulldogs..I'm dreading it actually...i love my Lions, but i wish Aker was still with us....he left because he felt he had too...the whole ordeal was very unpleasant :(

Any eagles supporters wanting to be drafted a player to put in your signature please visit the West Coast Eagles player draft thread and leave your name. There is only one spot left.
Cheers

I dont recall during Akers time at the Lions that he abandoned his car on a highway and ran away from police, nor do i recall him needing rehabilitation for substance use, or assault charges..or out nightclubbing and causing trouble, or having underworld figures for friends etc etc...He wasn't saying anything others hadn't said

True, but we also had to deal with Caroline Wilson, Robert Walls as well as a few others who decided to stick the boot in. Aker opened his big mouth and all it did was help us win the match. Aker should stick to playing football, he is better at it than opening his big trap.
Plus, his stirring and opinions he stated at the lions did not help the club.
why boo Aker??
having read his book I actually believe this guy likes people disliking and making him the villian...look at the hair and the strut
I like aker hes been great for the game but by the same token I would boo him also if that makes sense. Some players actually thrive on it and I think he genuinely likes a him against me menataility...he likes a stash its what drives him as a person and player

I am too busy concentrating on structures to boo players on the field.
As a supporter i dont like it when the crows start booing good star players, not just aker but it happens all the time. it honestly annoys me as someone like buckley will comeover never done anything wrong and get booed, from people who pretty much know nothing about football

Yeah, I agree with the Bucks/Hird type - don't think they deserve it. But c'mon, this is Aker

OK I take it all back. Boo the heck out of him. THen sue him.
yes, but there's probably plenty of players who'd like to do that.
There's not many players capable of beating up kerr though. Considering he took the G-Train, Hall and another big player last weekend (was it tarrent? or pav?)
Even cuz felt the mighty wrath of the DK (donkey kong? lol). He met his match on the stairs of doom. As did that taxi antenna.
CONQUERED! All of them!
