up the banga's............ hope bangledesh flogg them
The Indians have handed us a genuine oppurtunity to take out the one-dayers by leaving out several of their best players.
Sadly we've already stuffed it up by retaining Bashar as captain. Also, the early reports are that the pitches at Chittagong and Mirpur will offer very little assistance for bowlers, so that neutralises the threat of Rafique, Razzak and co.
I'll be happy with one win in the one-dayers and a draw in the tests.

With no Tendulkur or Ganguly in the ODI's I'm tipping Bangladesh to upset.
Mortaza will miss the first match with a back injury.
That's that then, pencil in a loss.

GAME 1 SCORES, Match reduced to 47 overs a side due to early rain before the start.
BANGLADESH 7/250 (47)
Javed OMAR 80 (117)
SAQIBUL Hasan 50 (68)
Dinesh MONGIA 3/49 (10)
lost to
INDIA 5/251 (46)
Mahendra Singh DHONI 91* (106)
Dinesh KARTHIK 58* (60)
We had them at 5/144 and let them win it. A game we absolutely should have had sealed and delivered by the 40th over.
The Daily Star in Bangladesh pretty much summed it up with this article:

Blame it on Bashar
Bishwajit Roy
Without any doubt, Bangladesh badly missed their main bowling weapon Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to repeat their World Cup success against India in yesterday's match at Mirpur. But the fact is, it was not the only reason behind the Tigers' five-wicket loss in the first one-day of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. It has been time and again told that Bangladesh batsmen hardly produce a total for their bowlers to defend but the batters did their job by putting on 250-7 in the 47-over-a-side match. But their efforts were not enough to script another glorious victory.
Habibul Bashar is perhaps the one to blame because of the way the Bangladesh captain handled the match that could have gone the home side's way in front of an electric crowd. The question was not why Bangladesh lost yet another match, but how.
If reckless batting was his first fault -- however made up for by his soldiers Tamim Iqbal (45), Javed Omar (80) and Shakib Al Hasan (50) -- then his reactive captaincy seemed simply pathetic for everybody who watched the game.
The 34-yeard old skipper was waiting for something to happen rather than trying to make it happen and help his side when the game was in his hands with India wobbling at 144-5 after 28.1 overs in reply to a challenging total on a pitch where batting was not easy against the slow bowlers.
Dashing Mahendra Dhoni (91), hamstrung and limping on one good leg, and Dinesh Karthik (58) kept cool in the middle under difficult circumstances during an unbeaten 107-run sixth wicket stand to take the match away from the home side. But they should have given some credit to Bashar for allowing them to pick up the singles easily and release the pressure on way to win the match with one over in hand.
The Bangladesh captain, who many believe has hardly any reason of continuing his one-day career, was completely exposed as a defensive captain when the situation demanded improvisation from him to make up for the absence of pace spearhead Mashrafe.
Putting only four fielders inside the ring instead of piling on the pressure ended in comforting the match winning pair who banked on Bashar's lack of killer instinct.
So, understandably he was the man in the receiving end at the post-match briefing but the pale-faced Bangladesh skipper was not ready to take any blame rather he thought that Dhoni made all the difference by playing a fantastic knock.
"No, we were not defensive. It is very difficult for many team to stop Dhoni that's why we thought that it would be better not to allow him big shots," he answered surprising the audience.
"Our main target was to pick up wickets but unfortunately our spinners were not as successful as in the previous few matches. But I don't want to blame them. You should understand that India batted well to win the match," he said.
The question was also raised, interestingly by an Indian journalist, about why his side's body language was negative when the match was in their control.
"From outside it might have looked different but inside we didn't feel something like that," he replied.
Bashar, however, admitted that his fielders missed some vital run out chances.
"Definitely I felt the absence of Mashrafe but someday you should play without your strike bowler. Yes, we put up a very good total on the board to create a chance but ultimately everything did not go in our favour," he said.
On the other hand 'under pressure', 'difficult situation', 'tough condition' were the words used by Indian skipper Rahul Dravid, who for the first time wore a smiling face in front of the press since their arrival on May 7, cricket manager Ravi Shastri and man-of-the-match Dhoni.
Dravid heaped all the praises on Dhoni and Karthik for the hard-fought victory after their disappointing five-wicket defeat to their World Cup nemesis.
"Really it was a special partnership under such a difficult and pressure situation. They controlled the innings and kept the run rate at move by rotating the strike and I must say it was exceptional batting we saw today," Dravid said.
"We were in a tough condition and it was not easy to field first and then bat against three quality spinners. So I must say it's a good win and mind it, a win is always a win. Many sides might have lost under this condition," he added.
He also explained the reason behind promoting Dhoni to number three. "Because he has the ability to change gear in different conditions," he responded.
While the Tigers captain hoped that they will fight back in the next two games by correcting their mistakes, Shastri warned that the hosts will have to play better.
"I am proud of my boys because they won a match under a difficult situation. Bangladesh will have to play better than this if they want to bounce back," said the former India all-rounder.

1ST TEST TEAMS
BAN: Omar, Shahriar, Bashar (C), Saqibul, Ashraful, Saleh, Enamul Jr, Masrafe, Mashud, Rafique, Shahadat
IND: Jaffer, Karthik, Dravid (C), Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dhoni, Powar, Khan, Kumble, VRV Singh, RP Singh
On a slow deck suited to batsmen Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat. At lunch on Day 1 India are 1/113 having lost Jaffer 1st ball of the match (bowled by Mashrafe). Karthik is 54 Not, Dravid 52 Not.
I've just watched the last 5 overs.
This pitch is so glassy, you can literally see a reflection of the batsman when he stands on it.
I've never seen anything like it.
The problem is, it's starting to break up which means the Indians will cash in today and post a score around 600 by tea tomorrow and then skittle us for not many on Day 3 when it starts to look like a dustbowl.

36 tons now for Tendulker
36 tons now for Tendulker
He was plumb a couple of times, this last one was a lucky one.
They've declared at 8/387 after two early wickets from Shahadat and Mortaza.
They took 7 wickets between them. They're going to be an excellent fast-bowling duo in a couple of years.
Nafees, Sakib and Saleh have made 32, 27 and 41 respectively, and then played a moronic shot to go out.
Jesus it's frustrating supporting Bangladesh.
Carn Bangladesh, you can get these runs.

Tea- 218 runs off 36 overs
have a go you Bangers!!!!!
And it peters out to a tame draw.
Ordinary batting by Javed Omar and piss-weak tactics by Whatmore.
Shahadat's out with a fever, we're playing Rasel and Mortaza with Mohammad Sharif making his come back to test cricket after 5 years as the third seamer.
It's going to be a long day.

surely mortaza is would be in top 15-20 bowlers in the world.... or higher.....
he is a gun... not only has an awesome average but gets wickets and good economy.... just look at this innings... 8 overs for 7 runs

India crawling at 0/67 @ Lunch.
India crawling at 0/67 @ Lunch.
And now 0/168. Poor effort by the Bangers after sending them in.
Bloody hell
Karthik and Jaffer have both retired hurt. Is it just a little bit of lying so they can bring in Sachin and Sourav without loosing a wicket?
India have won the match already 0/291.

He took 3 painful knocks to the area between pad and thigh pad and was in definite pain. He's also suffering from flu.
Got fed up with it all and stopped watching during the last session so I'm not sure why Jaffer went off.
And I have to say Bashar's decision to bat first on this pitch would have to rank #1 on a top 10 list of the most idiotic moves I've ever seen in all my years watching cricket. When you also consider that the other 9 also involve Bashar, it's safe to say that his sacking is way, way, way overdue.
Just ****ing get rid of the stupid ****.

Number 2 i'd say :p
And full credit to Mashrafe Mortaza who's been toiling away with an ankle injury in oppressive heat surrounded by second-string bowlers and still managed to give these Indian batsmen plenty of trouble right till the end of the day despite them having 300 on the board.
326/0 At stumps. Looks bad for the Bangas.

Is it really (technically) an opening partnership though with both openers retired hurt?

Now 1/462 with Sachin closing in on another ton. Dravid got one. These guys have suddenly recaptured form against the pathetically incompetent Bangers.
Give them the short shrift from test cricket but allow them to play one dayers. The Bangers are an embarrassment.
Is it really (technically) an opening partnership though with both openers retired hurt?
Well it's not an opening partnership but it's still the 1st wicket partnership.
It'll be a good one for the record books 4 players sharing the record, they should get within 1 run of it & then bring in the whole team & retire them then they could have all 11 share it.
I've decided to have a sense of humour about this.
Hahahaha.
Oh the humour of it all.
India created a world record with the first instance of the first 4 batsmen scoring tons. Now the Bangers are 5/58 at stumps.
What a pathetic team is Bangladesh! Test status should be summarily revoked.

do you even follow cricket ?
how many times do you see a team in the field for a long time come out and get rolled through ??
it happens all the time, but its going to be compounded with a weaker team
Didn't Australia nearly get all the top 4 making tons but someone was out for 99.
Was it Mark Waugh, dunno it was a while back.

I think it must have been in 1993, with Taylor, Slater and Boon scoring tons and Mark Waugh scoring 99 at number 4. From memory he was bowled between his legs. :p

If I remember correctly, he went for a stupid shot against Phil Tufnel and got bowled
Makes you want to pull your hair out, this lot.
With Mortaza struggling with injury and Shahadat out with a fever, we were always well behind the 8 ball. Sadly there's still not enough pace bowling talent in the country to compensate, as you saw during the Indian innings.
In our last 4 test matches we've come within 3 wickets of beating Australia and then allowed Jason Gillespie to make a double century in the match after.
This time round we took 14 Indian wickets on a highway of a pitch despite several genuine LBWs being turned down during the 1st test and followed that up with this.
Too many kids in the line-up and the old blokes aren't up to it any more.
If I remember correctly, he went for a stupid shot against Phil Tufnel and got bowled
Good old Tuffers.
He could bowl that boy.:D
I remember reading his book & how he went to pieces when Dean Jones started giving him the charge before he'd let go of the ball.
