View Full Version : Should the ochre be dropped altogether?

After seeing Mr. E's nervous breakdown regarding the ochre on another thread, I have to admit that I would like to see it banished forever.

Though back when they added the white striping back in the 90's I disliked it at first because our colours were only blue and gold, not blue, gold and white, but the white has grown on me.

I would like to see the ochre dropped altogether from our jumpers. I hate it, I do not believe it reflects our club or it's heritage. All the ochre does is remind me of the dark Judge years and that hideous away jumper the club produced in a mad moment of insanity. Surely the club can use more of the gold in the mascot's beak than a reminder of those bad days and disgraceful jumper.

Would you like to see the ochre dropped all together from the club's colours?

Thoughts please and if anyone is a photoshop pro, maybe see what type of jumper they can produce without that disgusting colour.

Any eagles supporters wanting to be drafted a player to put in your signature please visit the West Coast Eagles player draft thread and leave your name. There is only one spot left.

I'm all for dropping the ochre, as I feel it really doesn't have much relevance, I mean it just sort of popped up out of nowhere. I can bear it now in it's minimalist form but yeah, if they got rid of it altogether I wouldn't miss it.

Although I'm not adverse to using different shades of blue for a bit of variation, for a clash jumper or something.

as long as the ochre stays as just a way of breaking up the blue, gold and white (in the logo) i'm not too fussed, in fact it looks good imo - but, if it ever made its way on to the guernsey again, then i would i would have to commence the knee-cappings

It's part of our history, and although it's come to signify the disparity between marketing a product vs being a product, we still have have to 'wear' it ;)

One of the saddest days in club history was the day in late 1999/early 2000 they decided to be done with the traditional WCE guernseys and bring in those god awful new home and ochre away jumpers. Thankfully bit by bit they have reverted back some what. I can live with the small bit of ochre on the logo these days but I wouldnt be against it being changed.

Actually there is.

However that is in the paint industry.

No place for it on the footy field, I mean purple is bad enough!! :D

That reminds me of an away jumper we used to have...

Now someone get to work and make a jumper that is ochreless so we can make up our minds

Here are three propositions:

a.http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/518a79da44.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)
Mr Eagle's royal blue-on-navy. Okay

b.http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/3bb54f4449.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)
The common sense gold

c.http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/d1831772a5.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)
Revert back to old-school logo

Thoughts?

^^ agreed

without the ochre it looks bland from a graphics / aesthetic perspective

keep it in the logo, and the f**k away from the jumper

Big ask...but is anyone able to have a crack at doing a version of the home guernsey with royal blue replacing navy blue? ;)

Mr Eagle
10 May 2007, 14:17
I like having the royal blue in the logo but using the "common sense" gold on the jumpers.

After all, the old logo was blue and gold but we never used a two-colour version on any jumper - it was either a blue logo on gold jumper or vice versa.

Not sure how that would look with royal blue shorts... but I have been proved wrong before.

What if we use it in a home game to replicate what adelaide did with advertising prostate cancer awareness... just a thought

From an outsider's perspective, yes, yes, yes, yes and mmmmm, yep.

One of the most mindboggling phenomena of recent times has been your club's insistence of tampering with your guernsey.

The royal blue and gold wings was for mine, the most feared guernsey in the comp during the early 90s - there was something so imposing about it.

But then they made it navy blue.

Then they brought in that bizarre navy, white and yellow number with the stylised artsy swooping Eagle on the front. Why?

Then they brought in that bizarre ochre dog's vomit artsy swooping Eagle as an away guernsey. God, why?!

Philosophers will still be asking why in a thousand years' time.

Thankfully sanity has prevailed in the past few years and the old royal blue and gold wings is back, albeit with the newer Eagle logo (which to the point of the thread at hand should be devoid of ochre.)

Can I use this oppurtunity to announce that in the latest AFL game on PS2, The eagles actually rejected using the Ochre away jumper after IR Gurus proposed it to them.

Ochre is symbolic of those Dark days with Judgy! It needs to go. And what gets up my goat is when we wear our away strip at home games! That really shits me
