Time flies when your having fun, we're already up to round 7

This week the Cats take on the Eagles at Skilled Stadium. Who can forget the corresponding game at this fixture last year when Geelong raced to a 54 point lead early in the third quarter, only to then stop dead in its tracks. The Eagles came flying home with a wet sail to come over the top of the Cats and eventually win the match in one of the best comebacks in recent history.

This time around we see the Eagles coming into the match 6-0 and going along smoothly. Last week saw them have a solid, but unconvincing win against a determined Bulldogs outifit

Apparantly the Cats won last week? Can't confirm this, haven't heard too much about it :D

Embley should return for the Eagles this week while Chad Fletcher continues to press for a recall. Doubts remain on the fitness of Dean Cox.

As usual will leave the ins and outs for the Cats up to their supporters

The longer a winning streak continues the greater the probability that the next match will end it. I think that's how it works, mathematically. I guess that's for the punters to worry about. As for the game, should be a beauty, be watching this one with interest.

Chapman out with hamstring strain...He will be a big omission.
Egan will play after getting a corkie last week. Harley also a chance to play.
Stokes, Prismal or Djekerra all a chance to replace Chappy.

BTW, it soesn't work like that mathamatically...I seem to recall from my business stats days at uni that every new occasion is just that and you have the same chance (or probability) every time...hence eagles could win 5 in a row, probability of them winning or losing their next match is the same before they won their first....Gee, aren't I a nerd???

Chapman is a confirmed out for us - and a huge loss. We will not be able to cover his absence, but it seems that one of Brent Prismall or Mathew Stokes - both of whom were unfairly dropped for the Richmond game and played excellent VFL games last week - will take his place.

Max Rooke is in doubt. It will be a shame if he doesn't come up for his first game of the season as we need his toughness and he can be relied up to do a decent tagging job on Judd or Kerr. Cameron Ling will probably get the other gun midfielder and it will be interesting how he goes - Ling has had a good start to the season as a traditional 'run-with' player, holding Deledio to 6 touches last week while collecting 20 and kicking 3 goals himself.

Tom Harley may return and Matthew Egan should be fine to play.

All reserved seats for the game are SOLD OUT and it's advised that you pre-book GA tickets in advance as all signs indicate it will be a sell-out.

It's like when you play two-up. You see 4 heads in a row, and you think well surely a tails is next, but really, every flip is a 50-50. The previous spins have no effect on the next.

I think we will give them a run for their money at Skilled on Sunday :thumbsu:

Except of course that flipping coins has a probability of 50/50 every time, where as there are many other factors that will come into play on Sunday – like a home ground advantage and lack of horse tranquilizers available for Kerr.

this is is a game every west coast supporter looks forward too. We love beating the cats, brings back memories of peter "roo" matera running through the midfield and kicking goals from outside 50 in the grand finals of 92, 94. And i will tell you why, once again the west coast eagles will come away with a win.

We love the contested footy. Leading contested possessions and judd + kerr will dominate. Judd didn't even play last year, and we still won. He'll love this ground as his strength of playing in close and delivering picture perfect passes by foot or hand will come to the fore.

Geelong had a soft week last week, lets be honest, Richmond were horrible and the cats didn't have to work for the ball. But by gee jingles they won't be able to work hard enough this week as the eagles have pace, strength and the skills to comfortably defeat geelong.

Major danger game for us.

We've only had one win at Kardinia since 1999, and that was last year's comeback. But our record there has been good if you disregard when they were played, 8 wins to us, 9 losses.

Geelong may have only played Richmond last week, but we know they can beat us and beat us badly(2005 anyone?). West Coast aren't in the best of form but are still winning games. That trend has to end sooner or later.

Either we'll pick up our form and thrash 'em(unlikely until round 16 IMO), or we play our solid but uninspiring way and it's a close one.

Heart says Eagles by 25, head says Geelong by 8.

Good luck on the weekend:thumbsu:

This is a bloody hard one to pick, but the match-ups are going to be very interesting. We weren't tested at all last week and this game is going to be very physical and hard at it. We can't rely on dodging witches hats like we did against Richmond.

Chappy out hurts, too. Prissa and/or Stokes obviously will come in but neither are quite the same type of player. Too bad Rooke isn't fit enough as he would be a huge in for us. Just don't think he is ready and he shouldn't be risked.

Way to comment on a subject that you have no idea about.

Met him, have you?

Or just read a story or two in a paper, read some thick comments on bigfooty, and now you're an expert on his character?

That assumes that the event is independent and has a known probability, in the case of a football game this doesn't apply.

Exactly right. And indeed when you consider past wins as being indicative of future performances then you could say the longer a winning streak is, the greater the probability that it will continue in the next match. Probability is necessarily fuzzy like that (although I can't think how you'd argue that a longer streak increases the chances of it ending in the next game, except with faulty logic from the fact that they're "one game closer to their next loss")...perhaps we live in a deterministic world and the probability of every eventuality is either 1 or 0?

Same could be said about Ben though. Pretty much everyone who's met him said he's an exemplary fellow, just got issues like one G.Ablett Snr.

Anyway, this is about the game, if anyone wants to talk about other stuff, do it somewhere else.

My guess:

Goals:

Hawkins 3.4
Ablett 4.1

Lynch 6.0
Hansen 3.2

Possesions:

Kerr 37

Bartel and Kelly 27

average guns:

Stenglein will get 10 marks and a lot of scoring oppurtunities.
Judd will play as not expected with 22 disposals

Nathan Ablett will be knocked down the ranks
Hawkins will be a major target in the forward line

it'll be one of those games where if we're not on our game.... we'll get thrashed by 50 points....

look how easily geelong took the ascendency in last years game when we were caught napping

either we win by 10 points doing our egotistical cruise and do just enough to win MO..... or geelong by 6+ goals.
