Well, once again the AFL have not let us wear the yellow armbands in support of RAMA. They have however, allowed us to wear a Yellow guernsey . WTF?!?! Surely wearing Yellow armbands is hardly as detrimental to the game than wearing a yellow top!

What a load of tripe from the AFL.
This is an obvious attempt to persuade Essendon to wear a jumper other than the traditional one, to ease us into a more hideous "away" strip.
My patience for the people who run our great game, and for what they are doing to the sport, is really starting to run out.
They are doing nothing to improve football, but rather tending to their own agendas.

The worst thing about it IMO is the proposed game where we were going to wear it was a HOME game against MELBOURNE, a game where the opposition would have to wear a clash guernsey.

I agree entirely - these blokes at the AFL are getting far too carried away with themselves. Changing rules, the endless spin after tribunal stuff ups or umpire stuff ups and then this crap. I wonder what their legacy will be after they are gone - a game that somewhat resembles a great game that we all grew up with.

So will we still wear it and take the punishment, or will they opt for something else?

I dont see how a different colour armbad can possibly be deemed worse that wearing a yellow jumper.

Personally i say stick it to the AFL and wear them anyway, we can afford the $20,000 fine.

According to the newspaper article, could be $50,000. That is far too much to pay the nazis at the AFL. If we want to spend that much, we should give it to the Cancer Council, and make sure everyone knows about it, to shame the AFL.

Or they could do what they did last year, tell the AWFL we are happy to pay the fine, but we are donating it too the Cancer Council. :D

If its going to be $50,000 then we should hold off and try to find another alternative. Maybe we have to go with yellow bootlaces.

I hope we do wear a yellow guernsey against melbourne. Our away strip is even more of a clash than our home strip with melbourne!

In the herald sun the other day,
Andrew (afl boss) was saying that they do all they can in support of cancer.

I dont think so..
Ok,yes they are allowed to wear yellow laces or a one-off yellow top..

but come on,
just the yellow armband..
that's all they are asking..

No doubt if the team wears them..
they will be fined again..

JOKE.

It is ridiculous. What is the big deal from the AFL's point of view with an armband? The AFL complain about clubs and players doing the wrong thing and bringing the game into disrepute. What about themselves? They are shooting themselves in the foot from a PR point of view by going down this path.

Why do we even need AFL allowance to wear an armband? Its a little piece of tape on the arm. The AFL is way overreaching their role in even having a say in this. As for allowing pretty much any piece of the uniform or stadium to be yellow except for tape on the arm, well that is just baffling.

Didn't the AFL once permit checkered arm bands to celebrate the police at some level?

Or is my brain making up history again??

They reported that maybe the umpires would wear special yellow tops. I laughed. When Essendon play Melbourne the umps have worn yellow for the last few years. Stupid AFL

Yeah, it's not much of an argument.

Vlad will probably argue that it wasn't under his administration.

I don't really mind protecting the sanctity of the arm band, but they've bastardised it before and at least yours is for a good cause.

I'd recommend that you change the colour of your sash to yellow, but then you'd play like a pack of school girls!

Someone at work just told me about this and I just had to voice my opinion.
I remember the other year a player wore a different colour armband for something similar and ended up getting fined because he didn't ask the AFL for permission. You guys ask for permission and get told no anyway. What a joke.

Typical of the AFL to use use their powers in a way that goes against what is good for the game and deemed to be a positive thing by everyone. If you did a vote on this throughout the AFL clubs not one person would be against. But as usual, because it wasn't the AFL's idea, the AFL ruling body is against it.

Until some people or party make some kind of stand we will continue to be governed by the dictatorship that is the AFL.

Yellow armbands, my god what harm does it do?:mad:
