Never even heard of this 2004 new zealand movie till I rented it last year on dvd.....
what a terrific little sleeper of a film it is
About a man who comes back for the funeral of his father and is forced to confront the past......
I know that sounds cliched for ppl who haven't seen it....but this is one of those films where it is best not to talk too much about the plot.... enough said.
It stars two up and coming actors Emily Barclay, recently seen in Suburban Mayhem and Matthew Macfadyen who played Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.
Was just watching it again...and did some googling to find out what the director Brad McGann is doing next (this was his debut feature film)....turns out he died....like a week ago.... ^^;;
Its like Fabian Bielinsky and Nine Queens/Nueve Reinas (remade into Criminal) all over again.... a director makes a classic film and is dead before he can take advantage of the acclaim.... a great loss to the New Zealand film industry (IMFD was one of the top ten grossing films that year) and the movie watching audience.
What makes it more amazing....is he died from bowel cancer...which was diagnosed 10 years ago....at least he left his mark on the world with this movie I guess.
