I am afraid that if Terry keeps playing Lids out of position that he is going to end up an average footballer playing back pocket/wing/half back
he needs to get in the guts and learn what it takes to be an elite AFL midfielder. we dont want him ending up like goddard (dudd no.1 draft)
Terry please, get lids in the middle, let him use his size and his pace to start to rebuild tigerland from the ground up

Why?
He never played midfield as an elite junior.
Were you under the impression he was an onballer?

where did he play as a junior?
and i think it is a good move playing him loose man in the backline - it frees him up and creates run out of defence plus he rotates through the midfield from there

He should be played off HB for the rest of the year but NOT as a loose man. He needs to be taught accountability. I'd play him on Buddy in the Hawthorn game and play him on the O'Keefe, Mitch hahn, Jonshon, Hird etc forwards. Get his hands dirty and let him be the hunter, not the hunted
It was a weel known fact that before he was drafted....when heavily tagged he struggles alot.

I dissagree.
Anytime Richmond has ever get anyone good, or someone that gets a bit of form in the last 15 years they put them to the half back line and there goes their career. They play for 10 years but as a 15 possession hlaf back in a poor team. Put him in the middle.

for the 'midfielders' in his draft he would be the one that has put on the most weight, and he is fairly tall for a midfielder

Ling held Kerr extremely well today.
Little wonder Lids had such a tough time of it last week.
Seems Ugly is getting his form back.

Just watching on the TV, it is amazing what Ling gets away with. I saw 3 stoppages where he was either holding Kerr or front on shepparding him from the contest.....one time with his arms outstretched.
The powers that be want the primemovers to be getting access, keeping the game flowing, they make a rule saying they will be coming down on these hack taggers creating stoppages, then let it go all the time.
Then you have Murphy from the Blues just getting pounded every week. Last year, who was it when we played the Cats tagged Lids? Whoever it was, I remember he totally lined up Lids and smashed him front on at a stoppage, sending him off with multiple injuries. We don't have the hard at it seniors to protect Lids at the moment. He needs some protection for another year. Of course he needs to be out there getting experience, but I read another post where he is wasted on the HBF. Tell me Mcleod is being wasted??

Lids barely played ruck rover during the TAC cup. He played forward/wing.

dude, where did Mcleod make his name? You are comparing a player who is being preserved in a position that he is most dangerous at this point in his career to a kid who is looking up and aspiring to be just like or better than that player. You have your gun youngsters on the ball and when they are not youngsters but guns, you put them where experience is needed. ;)

are you saying Mcleod couldn't dominate a game as an onballer?...because the game has changed 'dude', in case you haven't noticed. HBF's now can have just as big an impact on games as onballers! And even if you don't buy that, Lids is at the other end of his career, and yes my point exactly, he can continue learning the game from there. If he has as much of an impact on games as Mcleod week in week out, I think we can call it a 'good' year!
