The welcome inclusion of Sam Fisher improves our defensive woes somewhat and Birss is a fitting replacement for the suspended Baker. The other out is Matthew Clarke. This would have been the perfect game for him :( .

Kosi took over rucking last week, when Clarke went down, and played his best match for some time (since that patch). He will be the senior ruckman against Sydney and together with Rix they will have to play well above themselves to just break even. The Sydney midfield has played together for years. They gel into a untidy but very effective unit.

I haven't seen a lot of the Swans this year, but we can thank them for dropping Tim Schmidt. He might not be a quick (that is all the rage ATM), but he is one of the most immaculate kicks of a football I have seen. His skill is underrated - even by his own coaching staff.

I am an admirer of the classy footballers and it is great that we have two of the finest examples in our own team (Dal Santo and Goddard). Schmidt fits into the same category and I am rapt that he is dropped.

Heard on 3AW tonight that there was a strong whisper that a 'big name' player from St Kilda was going to miss this weekends game through injury.

Anyone ?

Pardon my ignorance but, where is Kennelly? Is he injured or what?

He did a knee 2 weeks ago I believe. Out for a couple of months.

Yes Kennelly is out with a knee for at least a month.

Regarding Schmidt, that's an interesting observation. I'm not disagreeing with you that he is a good kick, but far from the best in the team (I believe Nick Davis is, Kennelly just behind him.)

Where have you heard that from?

It's definitely the big rumour going around the traps.

Jason Gram said there's nothing in it and he'll play tomorrow.

We'll know tomorrow night.

Well done St Kilda and Ross Lyon. One team reminded me a lot of the Swans of 2005: hard tackling, defensive pressure, and immaculate foot skills. Too bad it was your lot and not ours. :(
