discussing ruck deficiencies and possible solutions on the dogs board. Has mcdogal any chance of being a ruckman? even if he could ust get a hand to the bal and make himself useful around the ground he would probably be OK, considering our other ruck options arent much chop right now.

no
does not have the physicality to compete at any level in the ruck
one decent knee to the ribs or guts and he is stuffed for the season

Rucked in the WAFL a fair bit last season. He racked up stats around the ground but his actual ruckwork and tapwork was woeful/non existant. A bit like Richmond with Pattison in the ruck. Too small and out of his league but he can get a stat around the ground okay

What he said.
Will outrun pretty much any ruckman around the ground easily. Don't expect him to do much with it when he gets it though

Look ,when it comes to hard work, he is found wanting. Release him at the end of season.

Although he may have played there in the WAFL at some stage he lacks training in the position and his tendency to contract injuries would not be helped by playing in as physical position as ruck. He might be able to ruck at throw ins occasionally but I wouldn't put him in the centre square !

I guess thats the other thing - Ive noticed his decision making is pretty poor when he gets the ball outside of scoring range - stop, prop, kick long to a contest. its not the worst thing he could do, but it doesnt favour our forward setup at all. So getting a lot of it around the ground isnt going to help our cause if he turns it over
