View Full Version : Fawkner Football Club
Well people The Fawkner(park)Football Club is setting in place people and the process to make a huge comeback next year.
Chances are the "park" will be dropped from 2008 to remove confusion with a certain Fawkner Park in St Kilda. The Club will still look at involving the Moomba Park aspects of the Fawkner/Moomba Park merger in the Clubs history.
The council are keen to allow a local Soccer Club access to Mutton Reserve as the east oval will soon be up playing standard in less than 1 month and they believe the Social Club rooms are not be utilised.
More should be known soon.
Meeting at The Fawkner Club Rooms, Tuesday the 29th of May. On the agenda is the Seniors and Juniors for 2008 and onwards. The Council wants the rooms used either by the Australian Rules football Club, or by one of the many Soccer Clubs looking for a new home.
Anyone who cares about keeping an Aussie Rules Club in the Fawkner area are invited to attend.
Eugene A'Rocca an old Fawkner boy and former CEO of The Collingwood Football Club has thrown his support behind Fawkner Park stayin Alive.
We have sponsors lining up to get on board and although we still need confirmation on the 29th, the future of FPFC seem a little more sure than it was.

Will you all behave yourselves next season, will all you players turn up for away games, will you be competitive, let's hope there is a 3rd Divi.
Don;t let any soccer club there this season otherwise, you'll never get it back, don't trust whatever the Council says about the soccer club usage of the ground

why would you bother, the club is a joke and the pavillion and ground is a rabble. Honestly you should have better things to do than try to get a club that has been a laughing stock of every league they have ever been in to make a comback. Surely you jest!
Just let it go.

Well the Pavillion is quite good, as are the change rooms. When you say ground, do you mean the west or the east ground we have two to choose from within the precinct? Considering we have teams lining up to train on the west ground and the council has just re-sown the east ground, I think your Criticising in jest. Or you ahve no idea what your talking about.
Sounds to me like you maybe worried about just how far Fawkner could go with the right people behind it. After all they did win Back To Back Flags in the amature years.

Amatuer years was NOT Fawkner Park but Fawkner, Moomba Park have always controlled the club , who will run it? you've gone into recess twice in the last 5 years, your players don't turn up for away games, when the council give it to soccer . adios
The meeting was well attended with a handful of new faces including myself. With these new faces came new ideas and renewed enthusiasm for the Club to move forward.
Let me ask you, how many of the clubs in the NFL are planing for season 2008 in May 2007?
Oh and BTW the History of Fawkner Park FC, includes the all Fawkner Amature years as well as the Moomba Park history. The roof of the Club Rooms is decorated with flags from those two Clubs that make up Fawkner Park FC.

And your response to will your players turn up to away games, will they behave themselves, they may be planning for 2008, at least they have platers, money and a Club to plan with.
By the way didn't know Fawkner was park of a "motor"
We dicussed the terrible reputation Fawkner Park has within the DVFL/NFL. We cannot go back and undo whats been done, what we will do is make Fawkner Park the best it can be.
No big promises, no rash statements it's just a local club that wants to get back to playing footy.

To be honest their time and/or reputation in the Ammos has been exaggerated. Played against them a couple of times in B Grade and never had an issue. Only problems really came about when they played sides who took pride in fighting back - Thomastown, Bulleen Temp, Ivanhoe etc.
Good luck to them if they can get the club up and running properly.
The past few weeks has been full of committee meetings, meetings with sponsors, planning for the future with the NFL and next week will see AFL Victoria come down to our humble rooms for a friendly chat. Our aim is as has been pointed out, to not have to do this again in a few years. So we are seeking out all the professional help we can.
We will soon be having an Auskick Clinic with a few AFL stars at Mutton Reserve as part of our resurgence. All children will be welcomed at this clinic and their parents will be warmly encouraged to come back in the following weeks.
Remember with Moomba Park, North Fawkner and Campbellfield now Soccer Clubs, Fawkner Park is the only Club north of Bell St on the eastern side of the Hume Highway left in Melbourne.

Get rid of the blokes who aren't there to play that just want to smack someone and your reputation may increase.
Lots of snipers down Fawkner Park way.

It's highly unlikely that the NFL will have enough Clubs to have 3 divisions next season. The direction that is being looked at could surprise a few people and a couple of the local leagues.

Hey Tess,
Lets just not leave it hanging like that. Let us all know what the latest rumour is??????
Fawkner, Resa, Wallan, Kinglake, heidelberg west, panton hill and hurstbridge.
there are seven struggling clubs that could well do with a divison three.
Have a look at div 2 there is a clear massive difference between the best(macleod) the average (parkside) and the terrible (kinglake)
Getting beaten by 100+ points every week cannot do a lot for the clubs morale and potential sponsors. divi 3 much more competitive and gives them a chance for some success.

Big rumours floating around that Wallan are looking at re-joining in the Riddell District Football League. The league has improved dramatically the past 5 years, and is taking a more professional approach.
Has Fawkner Park looked at the option of also returning to their old stomping grounds?
wallan leaving wouldn't hurt one bit, just like fawkner no one would be overly fussed.

Maybe Kinglake can follow suit. I don't think you would
get many complaints from this forum. No-one in Kinglake
owns a computer. Do they even have Broadband connected
there yet ?
At the moment there is NO Aussie Rules Footy Club north of Bell St on the Eastern side of Sydney Rd between the Merri Creek until Kalkallo. If an Aussie Rules Club in Fawkner is not supported in Some way by either the NFL or the EDFL, then that whole area will be dominated by Soccer. Thats North Coburg( I know they have the Saint's but for how long?), Fawkner, Campbellfield without a Footy Club.
Is this what people wanted as they danced on Fawkner Parks grave last year?
The facilities at Fawkner's Mutton reserve are probably some of the best around, yet Clubs such as North Coburg have below par facilities. It's just that Fawkners in a bad area, being located just within the NFL Zone and just outside(Sydney Rd) the EDFL zone.
Saving Fawkner is not just about the Fawkner Football Club, it's about stopping the growth of Soccer.

Bit harsh there, obviously her heart and soul is at fawkner and she has a passion for AFL to stay in the area, where is your heart at, i bet if your club was battling you would try to keep it alive, or are you one of those blokes that just throws your hands up in the air and says, i dont care, let somebody else do it? then move on to another club.
Keep up your work tess, people with your attitude are what helps clubs move forward, if NFL or EDFL wont support you in some way, give the RDFL a call.

Heard a whisper that North coburg are looking closely at the facilites and grounds at Mutton reserve for next season. You guys have a battle on your hands.

Well considering North Coburg's senior side is 3/4's Fawkner FC guys, and the EDFL knocked Fawkner Park back because of the Sydney Rd border..... Maybe the Saint's were invited guests, not unwelcome vistors.
Theres already 4 or 5 "coburg" Clubs, if a Club was to move to Fawkner surely they would need to adopt the Fawkner Name!
Then theres the EDFL to deal with ... or does a "merged" Club look towards the NFL?

Fawkner Park understands Fawkner still has a crap name going back to the Armature Days of the Big brawl at Mutton Reserve. So the Name Fawkner will no longer be associated with any Club based at the Charles Mutton Reserve!
Oh and Blues 12, your local Club will be playing an away game at Mutton Reserve next season as this "new" Club walks away from the NFL into the EDFL.
Goodbye to the NFL...... Hello to the EDFL!

can open up a new one through EDFL ?

Sad to hear... never had any problems with Fawkner Park during my juniors.

Most of the players from Fawkner Park went to our close neighbor North Coburg Saints. Without the Fawkner Park guys North Coburgs seniors would be depleted, so both Clubs have bitten the Bullet and are Close to establishing The Northern Saints Football Club based at Mutton Reserve Fawkner playing in the EDFL.
Word is Ronnie Thorneycroft, former Pres of Coburg Juniors may have a hand in the running of the new club
