Listen to the man in his role as commentator, could not think of a more suitable person to have on a coaching panel with such a young list, demands respect, has more leadership then our whole playing list combined and really knows he's shit.
Get him, make it happen, he will brink the best out of Deledio and co.

I agree..
it seems the 2 best coaches these days..are the ones who were always considered very strong onfield leaders and were tough and hard at it.. worsfold and roos..
the game is forever changing..and its these youngish coaches who were not so long ago superstars, they seem better knowledged at whats required these days...
voss would make a great assistant..
heck, make him coach and wallace his assistant :)

I'm sure after reading the following article that Voss would just jump at the chance to join the Richmond coaching panel....not!
Voss urges Charman to ignore Tigers
12 May 2007 Herald-Sun
Andrew Hamilton and Michelangelo Rucci
LEGENDARY Lion Michael Voss will counsel Jamie Charman to stay in Brisbane after cashed-up Richmond publicly placed him at the top of its recruitment wish list.
Voss, who captained the Brisbane Lions to three premierships, said Charman could cement his reputation as one of the club's great players - and joining Richmond would be a backward step.
"He's got the ability to lead the next generation of footballers to Brisbane's next premiership. Richmond are behind that," Voss said.
The former skipper also wants Charman to come out and declare his commitment to Brisbane if he intends to stay, saying trade talk could be de-stabilising to a young playing group that was exceeding expectations this year.
Voss, who could have named his price at 15 other clubs throughout his career, says Charman would be unwise to make money the sole factor in his decision.
"A few extra dollars in the pocket is nice, but he'll get that at Brisbane, and contentment with where you are is important," Voss said.
Lions coach Leigh Matthews also made some timely remarks about loyalty yesterday.
"Importantly, I only had one jumper on, and that is one of the great satisfactions of my life," Matthews said.
Matthews said he was not surprised at Richmond's interest, saying Charman would be one of the hottest properties on the market.
"At the moment there's 600 players in league football, 300 of them are uncontracted and there's 50 really good players uncontracted and Jamie is certainly one of those," he said. "But we're fully hoping and expecting Jamie will be a part of our medium and long-term future."
Sounds like he doesn't really rate you guys.

We need a real strong leader type at the club and Voss is obviously a very strong leader with a good understanding of the game. If we are so cashed up we should throw money at him to be our midfield/development coach.

Vossy is quite cosy at the moment with his commentating and he reports sports on Channel 10 up in Brisbane. Why would he want to give that up to cop the abuse you get at Richmond?

Hopefully because Vossy wants a challenge. And what bigger challenge is there in football ATM then turning the tigers around.
I'd love Vossy on board. He should take over the development role as well as recruiting the type of players we'll need to suceed. I'm all for giving these kids a chance to prove they can play......but I also hope that we'll start drafting a few that don't look out of place at senior level.

I presume that would be our only appeal to a bloke like Voss; the satisfaction of turning around the 'sleeping giant' as Wallace described it when he took over. I for one, would love to get Voss onboard as Wallace has previously looked for youthful assistants as he has picked up King, McCrae and Rawlings in the last couple of years and so it would continue that line of thinking... I think Voss would bring what those three bring to the table and more, I think there must be some sort of aura around the man, no one questions him, even his fellow Channel Ten commentaters worship every word he says.

I think you meant his... ;)
Get Vossy down as a skills coach. :thumbsu:

Agree. I think he would be such a great mentor for Deledio. Plus guys like Meyer, Polo and Hughes who have a few questions over their workrate on the training pitch wouldnt want to cross Vossy.

yeah he would be great dont know if he would move from brissy to do it though
him hird buckley and archer would be great as assistants
most people will say they wont go there because we are crap
but they are all champions who love a challenge
i say we need to grab one of them
even snaring longmire or sumich from their teams

We couldn't get either, but given a choice, I'd take Lambert well before Voss.
The best modern midfield ever seen was the product of his work...no doubt he taught Voss a lot.
Lambert as assistant coach - also coaching the midfield.
Leon Cameron as assistant coach - also skills coach.
Jim Jess as defense coach.
We don't have any ruckman so we don't need a ruck coach. :p
I guess that's why we got Monkey. :thumbsu:

More like get him down to the club as a Leadership Coach.
Could perhaps teach our so called leaders a thing or two, takes more than having games under your belt or bleeding for the club to become a leader.
We have sweet FA.

Voss' best football came before Lambert became the midfield coach, and it doesn't take a genius to coach a midfield of Voss, Aker, Black, Lappin and Power.
You would take Voss before Lambert any day of the week

I'd like to see Wallace hire a more experienced assistant to challenge him. At the moment he has his mate Brian Royal, and a lot of ex-Dog veterans backing him up. Bit of group-think going on there.
I think we have too many 'apprentice' coaches sitting behind him.

i read this same article and these words were attributed to Leigh Matthews, not Voss.

I tend to agree, I was stating that it becomes more likely we will investigate the availability of Voss due to our recent recruits to the coaching panel. I think getting Voss onboard along with an experienced head would go along way to establishing an elite coaching outfit (this would probably be at the expense of one of our younger coaches, even Royal, but that's not going to happen).

I agree with Weaver. Surrounding yourself with yes men and like thinkers isnt the best way to build a challenging and innovative environment in any pursuit. I'd love to see some ex-Tigers coaching current Tigers but sadly not much to pick from. We sometoimes seem to be missing that element of "playing for the jumper" in recent weeks and ex-Tigers could entrench that more. Aint gonna happen I know.

Why? Good players don't necessarily make good coaches. Silvagni was the FB of the century, yet listening to him commentate a game or two you quickly realise he's pretty much clueless. I haven't heard Voss call enough games to pass judgement, but being a champion player doesn't automatically make you a champion thinker.
Lambert has years of experience with a premiership midfield's systems and has been understudy to arguably the best senior coach around. He has years of experience over Voss and is a former Tiger.
He's also likely to be a career assistant coach - getting Voss would more than likely only be a short term appointment. If Lambert ever wanted a change of scenery (which as I said before I strongly doubt), chances are you'd get a decent period of service out of him.
IMHO although listening to them commentating gives you a good judgement of their coaching skills dont forget the mouth dances to a different tune to the mind-old adage. In layman's terms, they may speak footy like Paris Hilton giving an IQ test but in their mind when put into a coaching situation may know exactly what to do.
