View Full Version : Good Signs From Port Game

Good to see the Tigers fight out the game instead of putting their tails between their legs and getting belted again. Port may have eased up a little but we still kep on trying things and taking risks and although it causes some turnovers every now and then we must keep on trying to take the game on. Good to see Deledio play a game that we should be seeing him play. ALthough he started on White and had a couple kicked on him early the way he finished the game 22 possies 17 marks is a good sign that when given freedom to go and get the ball he can be damaging with it.
JB was good down back and done some very selfless acts getting back with the flight of the ball to help out team mates. Foley was good, Howat worked hard, Patto was not disgraced in the ruck, all in all a better showing this week but again it means nothing if they come out next week against the Crows and get belted.
Best players: JB, Deledio, Foley, Howat, Johnson
In all honesty, Delidio's position should be CHF. He pretty much played that position in the second half and with good results agains the second side in the competition. He is quick, can lead and can kick straight. CHF is more suited to him than in the middle.

3 weeks ago I wanted us to win, today I was just happy we didn't get smashed. It's strange how our expectations have changed in such a short time.:(
It was good to see the boys fight it out to the end today. I thought Johnson, Foley and Bowden were good and it was nice to see Howat and King play well. Polo and Tivendale showed that we are better side with them there, Patto improved in the ruck and Lids and Polak were ok too.
McGuane, Richo, Schulz and Hughes were disappointing and Krak showed that he is not worth persisting with. Drop him back to Coburg Terry!
Roaming HFF. Give the guy space he will take care of the rest.

He should really be playing forward/midfielder. He still has to learn to become a midfielder but he did look very good up forward in the last quarter.

You must be kidding with Tivendale.........his disposal is friggin' hopeless for an experienced player........waste him

Your closer to the mark with that.

I know he missed a couple of goals but we are still a better side with him than without him at the moment. I never said he was great.
Patto was quite good in the Ruck.
King + Howat were impressive.
Although Chad Cornes played very well, I thought Polo was very good and a much better tagger than Jackson, lmao. Jackson will never play again. Polo is a gun. Foley just continues his dominance.
Pettifer had his best game for the year :)

yeah fantastic to see. But you know what you also see? last weeks performance each time too. Then like clockwork playere realise that they might be in the dole queue and like clockwork give you what we had today.
Now we are not at first base, but i would say around -4 base where you see a game that is over in 3 minutes and the rest is a training run for the winner, with the loser busting their chops to end up getting mauled. Fantastic stuff we are on the right road ay? ;)

Yep. In a nutshell. Port knew they had the game won late in the first quarter when they were chewing on us and realised they didn't like what they were tasting. So they spat us out and then only decided they'd have another taste in the last quarter just to make sure they weren't mistaken the first time around.

what good signs. the skills were atrocious. the turnovers mind numbingly painful. the lack of system frustrating. do i need to go on.
make no mistake this game could quite easily have turned into a 80 100 point hiding.
the lack of structure body size and skills is scary the lack of of big bodies really pisses me off. millers had so many yrs to build depth and look after rucks kpp big strong midfielders who have skill. he has failed our club miserably.
WHAT THE F@RK IS UP WITH RICHO IN THE RUCK! HE IS NOT RUCK MATERIAL. hes gotta be at either end of the goals! p.s. by that i mean the other week he wasnt bad down in defence.

The media is perceiving us in the same light as they did Fitzroy just before their life support system was unplugged. ;)
The good signs were Polo, Foley, Polak, Joel Bowden. Pattisons first half was ok, struggled second half.

Looks good where he doesn't have to be accountable?
Big question marks on Deledio for mine. We picked him because he was close to being physically ready, but when given a task that other high rated kids at other clubs are doing well at, he often goes missing.
Just to clarify, I'm not talking particularly about his game today on White (who repeatedly left Deledio flat footed and trailing in his wake), more overall.
He's a bloody expensive flanker at this stage with a lot of hard work left to do if he's ever going to do what he physically and talent-wise should be capable of - becoming a midfielder who can play inside and outside equally well.

Utter bollocks.
He was one of the 3 youngest in his draft, 11 months younger than Griffen and had a light frame.

The only good thing was that it was not as bad as it could have been. Had Port wanted to push for a big win it would have been 60 to 70.
We are the competition easybeats easily 50 points off the level required but we've been here before and its just about putting up with our crap team as we always have to do.

I was at yesterday's game and noticed that in the second half, we resorted to playing the ugly 'keep is off basketball crap' and won the 1/2 by 3 points. You've gotta wonder if they were following Wallace's instructions???

Funny how everyone is complaining about how poor we looked and yet it was these same people that were crying out for us to try the kids and see how we go. Wallace has been forced into this position in that he has been missing Brown, Coughlan, Simmonds, Hall, P.Bowden & Kent. He has had no other option but to go with the kids and now that it shows just how bad we are it seems like some of you can't accept it. Remember it was only last season that the Hawks were seen as easy beats and yet after 6 rounds are looking like a side capable of sneaking into the 8 at years end. Partly because Clarkson played the kids and got games into them. We have seen some of our kids come in a play games and show something that indicates the future is not that bleak.
Hughes, McGuane, Pattison, Howat, Polo, JON, Schulz, Foley, Tambling amongst others have shown us they can play the game at this level just need time to get it together. Much like back in the 90's under Bartlett who got a group of kids into the club and a few year later they mae the PF only to then fall away. Wallace is at least trying to build us a list that can deliver long term success. It is not going to happen over night but it is going to happen.

Light frame my arse. He weighed 79-80kg when he came to the club at 17, had put on 8kg after his 2nd pre-season, and was physically capable of playing 22 games in his first.
He was as close to a 'ready-made' draft pick as they come - as everyone with half a clue said at the time of the draft.

I thing the disappointing thing about deledio is there has been very little improvement. Certainly not to the extent many expected.
He has only just turned 20 so he still has time on his side to really explode.

yeah they followed his instructions to the letter. It was attack at all costs in the first half, hence getting smashed, since we have shithouse attacking avenues. Then at half time, we better stem the blood flow, so the slumber party can talk about how the team showed us more than last week.
Had he not resorted to the basketball tactics, Port would have steamrolled us. Since we did, Port knew we had put up the white flag, and thought, lets just win coasting to the line, with minimal effort and energy. They were thinking about next week, and we were thinking of last week. ;)
