I think the Saints are a big chance here, Sydney haven't been that flash this year in Melbourne, with a close shave against the Tigers and a disappointing effort last week against the Roos.

St Kilda haven't beaten anyone yet this year but now is their chance. Saints by 9.

I agree.
Sydney have not been playing well, but then the Saints are ultra-unpredictable.
The Saints have a chance to prove themselves.

Sydney to play a more attacking style of game and beat St.Kilda

Sydney by 16 points.

Nick Riewoldt to fire, kick 6 on Bolton. Dal Santo supposedly was in doubt but is playing. Kirk on Ball will be a super match up. Sam Fisher will probably have the task on Hall. Barry for Gehrig.

Looks as if there is no live telecast to anywhere (except Sydney).

I can't even get the net radio feed to work - so just peeved off looking at the score updates

Showing Brisbane v Adelaide on FTA television and showing same match on Austar whilst no-one is showing the Saints match.

Its a very scrappy but also very entertaining game.

Robert Walls' tirade about an umpiring decision was funny.

Funnier when he realised he'd got it wrong and there was an awkward silence.

What ever happened to the Albert Park Lake Cup that these two teams used to play for?

Anyone who says that Barry Hall gets all the umpiring decisions his way should really watch this match. He seemed to be getting pinged for simply being near the ball.

Good result by the Saints, the good thing is they were able to prevent any sort of late charge by the Swans - once the Saints got on top, they stayed there and didn't let the margin get below 3 goals.

Goddard's injury is unfortunate though. I thought we had a bad run in 2006 with injury, but it's happened to the Saints much worse over the past 3-4 years.

They've been shocking all year, and the Saints were due to have the shockingness go their way.

and go their way it did. The umpires gave the Saints about 14 extra contested positions, while taking away a few from the swans. Thats like having a couple of extra Luke Ball's on the park.

That said, Saints thoroughly deserved to win it. Swans looked out of form. Goodes, Bolton, O'loughlin all as flat as a pancakes. How can the saints lose one of their best early, double team Barry Hall and still look like they had more players running around?

I saw the saints play port and Gherig looked so disinterested. He's never looked more dangerous than last night and kicked superbly. Mind you, if BBBH had been given the same latitude he would have kicked a bag too.

Sydney look like they are going downhill.

Couldnt beat a saints lineup worthy of VFL>???

weird.

On last nights performance the swans look to miss finals this year.

Hello Guys, first time poster here. Big Saints fan.

Swans are not the same team without the Irishman, Kennelly. Their backs are getting old and Saints have always had mega run. I mean playing chicken legs Fiora? hehe. The modern game is being played with 4th quarter stamina.

You need to outrun the other side at the finish or you will get killed. Good example is Blues vs Pies. Carlton was able to keep a lead early but Collingwood just way too strong in the last quarter just like against Crows the week before. West Coast is the best in the close finishes. Watch Geelong fold in the last if they don't get a 6 goal lead.

Back to the Saints. Amazed at the strait kicking especially the ones from the extreme angle. Go Gehrig those chairs were in the way :) G-Train always good at the Dome.

Big blow with Goddard joining the injury list. Hoping for Gardiner to get into the team very soon.

Great to see young players like blondie Jones step up and get over the ball. Hope he is ok after that knock.

Another home town game at the MCG next week followed by Free-O out west. I only expect them to win at the Dome so these next couple should be close.

GO SAINTS!!!

I don't know which way to lean. The Swans were in a worse position last year, but still pulled through, but this team doesn't feel the same as last years.

i think the umpiring was one way last night, and it costs the swans a little. But no way would it of made a difference really, and the games done now anyway. The swans were beaten by a team who wanted it more and backed themselves in, people talk about the saints injuries but i was impressed by some of the little known players they have, who wouldnt normally be in their best 22.

The swans have started another year like crap. I think the next 4 rounds will tell us where we are going in 2007. If we win 3/4 we are back on track if not than its downhill this year.

hats off to the saints, the better team last night, but jeez the frees were a joke.

The free kick ratio certainly made it appear that the Saints were being favoured. However there were some truly baffling calls both ways. A Swan getting a free kick when a team-mate ran into him, for example. Like everyone else, I don't believe the umpiring affected the outcome of the game. Saints too good.

i did mean the frees were a joke both ways, inconsistent and thats annoying.

Saints were very impressive, they always are at the dome, glad i tipped them, was hoping to get the tip wrong

We saw that.

I concur the umpiring was baffling.

you see the same incident from both sides and its not given.

some holding the ball decisions were ridiculous, anyone see that one handed handpass from swannie player, and yet no call was made and the swannies get a goal from it!

Spiders swan dive for a free was quality TV work, I think lloyd would have been proud of that one!

on the flip side I saw a saints player just plant the two arms in the back of the swannie forward, and no free kick called with the umpire right there allowing us a clearance, and on another occassion a clear one handed shovel from the saints player, in front of hte umpire was called play on.

I think the umpires are CONFUSED by the tackling rules, as well as the illegal disposal rules. Throw in the push in the back rules and the umpires are BAFFLED.

I thought we got a few favourable calls and we got a few unfavourable calls, by and large st kilda played the ball last night more than the swans, and that earned a little more protection than say against essendon when they were keen to play the man.

I dont think the umpiring is biased, its just bad.
