Went along to the Claremont game today. All I can say is Mitch you star

Mitch Morton - Kicked 5 goals and I think he would of had about 25 touches to add to it all effective. Chased and tackled abit but it was just his ball use that was once again first class. Must be close to a game. Still think he needs to learn how to tackle. His technique is woeful

Eric McKenzie - Due to a few tall injuries down at Claremont he played of a half back flank all day. Very good I thought. Provided alot of run from defence and kept his opponent very quiet. One of the BOG

Beau Wilkes - Semmed to be Mr Fix it today and did quite well. Racked up alot of stats.

Chad Jones - Best performance all year with 5 goals. His workrate was what impressed me though. Worked harder then ususal and was rewarded for it

In other games

Spaanderman - Was named BOG and apparantly had 20+ possessions and won the ruck agaisnt the in form ruck in the comp in Griffiths

McKinley - ???

Sampi - Had a great game in what was a easy victory. Hard to judge because Souths sounded like they dominated the game all day. Improving and showing signs but hes behind Morton atm I think.

Butler - Returned and got 25 possessions in about 80 mins of football. Great return earlier then expected too. Should be a fortnight away

Dont know how Houlihan or Schofield played. Anyone can fill in if they know. Overall a awesome week for us in the WAFL especially at the Claremont game with Mitch starring.

Houlihan had an OK game. Disposal was a bit poor but he picked it up in the 4th quarter I thought.

McKinley had no real impact on the game IMO, he kicked I think one goal and he played OK in the 4th when it was there to be won, but nothing amazing.

Spaanderman dominated the ruck early in the game and did quite well in the 4th as well, but Griffiths (EF ruckman?) wasn't starting ruck so it wasn't against their first choice.

That's what I took from the game on TV today.

Heard about Mitch though, very happy.

I think Mitch will be the icing on the cake for our forward line

will just make a superb link on the half forward line

Was at Freo oval last night

Sampi played a brilliant forward line game. Will not be high in the stats or the best players but he is back to near his best. Basically started 35-40m out from goal and did not lead (that was left to Ryan Murphy and Clayton Collard). He hunted the packs if the ball hit the deck and he did it well. Set up a few goals from handpasses out from the middle of the pack to an open man. His tackling was also fantastic, his closing down speed in the last metre was unbelievable. Just when the opponent thought he was clear Sampi would make up the last metre instantly. Finished with 9 tackles. Kicked 2 goals himself, one from a holding the ball free kick the other from a push in the back free (old style push in the back). Played on Marcus Drum all game.

Butler had His first game since the Grand Final and played probably 3 quarters of the game. Started on the bench but then came on to a HBF. Did not go anywhere near his opponent and zoned off, he was cleaned up in his first minute on the ground by Collard. From the 2nd quarter he spent more time in the centre and ran out the game well. Ended up with about 30 possesions. Played great and looked fit, might only be a couple of weeks away from being ready and available for West Coast.

If Morton came into the side, I would much rather Rosa makes way for him.

Rosa doesn't do much for me, 25 possies a game, 23 ineffective, and every kick is a mongrel up and under hospital high kick. Being a bit harsh on the youngster... but I see him as Chad Fletcher Mark II.

So, does Spaanderman have a chance at redeeming himself ?

P.S. I appreciate you guys who report on the WAFL :thumbsu:

Well Easts gave Spaanderman the BOG award. Why didnt Griffiths ruck most of the game? Injured?. Really did redeem himself in my eyes Kempie. It was the toughest game a ruckmen in the WAFL faces and he passed in flying colors it seems.

The real positive sign with Morton is he looks 100% fit for a change. Shoulders look fine and his marking was great. I still think he needs to work on his defensive pressure but other then that I say slot him in next week.

Where's Sampi in the team? You've got him as in but he's not listed in the 22. I agree, a fit and firing Sampi absolutely has to be in the team.

Butler gets a guernsey because he had a phenomenal last part of the year. Really stepped up.

Chick most probably will retire at the end of the year, allowing Hurn to slot into that role, thus allowing Nicoski to slot in on the wing?

Bloody Hell, it's emberassing the depth we've got.

I'd also like to see McKinley get a game or 2 this season, to see if he's worth keeping on.

oops, meant to put him in but couldnt fit.

Hurn on the wing and Niko to the backline, Hurn is a much better decision maker, niko blazes away too often and tries to go too long. Niko is a better defender than Hurn, Hurn plays too loose.

I tried to get Sampi in the team but rowan Jones is playing awesome football atm and Sampi played a good game in a team that flogged the opposition and with wirra kicking a fair few goals its hard to get samps in there.

It's great to hear about all the pressure coming from guys outside the current team, should stop any feelings of complacency from creeping in. Sounds like the selectors are going to have a few dilemmas in the upcoming weeks.

Thanks for the reports guys.:)

well done to spaanderman, started the season slowly, but has been going really well for a month now it seems

rd 5 - 21 possies, 9 marks, 24 hitouts, 1 goal (first ruck)
rd 6 - 19 possies, 6 marks, 8 hitouts (second ruck)
rd 7 bye
rd 8 - BOG

Rosa doesn't deserve to be dropped. Has been good all year and was fantastic today. Our best IMO.

The depth is massive and a lot of the players will only get a run if we have injuries. With Cox, Embley, Fletcher, Butler, Cousins and Nicoski all arguably in our best 22 (who to drop?) but not playing today, and Sampi, Morton. McKenzie and McKinley all playing well enough to deserve at least a handful of games, i think we're going to have a few disgruntled players at years end asking for more opportunities.

Brown & LeCras you get the feeling are only fill ins. Rosa, Priddis, Hurn and Armstrong are touted as likely to get dropped every week, yet they play well enough to keep guys like Fletcher out of the side.

I was waiting to come on and read about how Spaanderman played well, but not because he is any good. Thankyou for surprising me with some positive feedback. The bloke is working his arse off, and in light of the added pressure the court case has him the guy has carried himself very well. I think where we were beaten against geelong was in the big man stakes, so hopefully he can string the rest of the season like this, and we can see what he can really do.

How good will that backline be?

So much run...

BTW - not sure if it was deliberate but you left Wirra out of that team

After watching Macnamara on TV I can see why he wasn't taken in the national draft. He's just too odd with his disposal and decision making.
