I know folk on this board (including me) have given them heaps of stick, but does anyone think we should be giving Ling and Thompson some credit after today's win. Ling held Kerr to zero possessions after half time and Thompson's move to make Corey go with Judd was fantastic. No one is ever going to stop Judd all game but that move kept Ablett, Bartel, Milburn and Stokes free reign to punish the Eagles when they had the chance. A lot of Judd's possessions were ineffective as well which was amazing.

Ling deserves a lot of credit.

He's finally playing the way he always should, not the way he did last year.

Always tag, always.

I can't speak for everyone else, but on those two issues my position has been:

- Ling is an awesome tagger, but there's no point in playing him on blokes who can burn him for pace. Kerr couldn't and got knocked over as a result. He also spent some time on Judd and did pretty well too.
- Bomber has been playing Corey as a small defender and he's been getting flogged. Seems after the Tigers game Bomber decided to finally put him back in the middle where he belongs, and in an act of faith on Judd. Corey repaid him spades, and looked very dangerous.

So without wanting to be ultra-arrogant, stuff like this has been blindingly obvious for a while and it's only now that Bomber is waking up to it - but at least he is.

Yeah, I noticed, he certainly has gained some pace.

Yeah, I noticed, he certainly has gained some pace.

I feel he's just got himself superfit like Lingy and runs himself into the ground each game.

Ling has gone back to what he is doing best, where he made a name for himself in the first place. That is tagging and niggling the shit out of his opponents.

Ling - 21 touches 8 tackles. Very classy performance.

Ling is playing as well as anyone could expect him to at the moment and Bomber has us in finals contention when at this point last season we were just about out of it.

Credit is certainly due to both and given respectfully and respectively to the fact we are only one third of the way through the season.

Yeah, I noticed, he certainly has gained some pace.

Many would argue at the expense of some ability. Prior to today, Joel Corey has been bloody ordinary.

I give credit to Ling, but i think he's always had it in him. I've bagged him and his cheap kicks, but that was ultimately the coaching staff's problem too, for not correcting it sooner.

But yeah, Ling was good and Thompson had a win.

I think Bomber likes his players to be able to play in more than one position. Corey was never going to stay in the bacline, just like Mackie probably won't. Last week he threw Nath in the middle in the last quarter and gave Varcoe a bit of time up the field. Adaptability is a must for footballers these days cause if you're getting beaten in one position doesn't mean you can't contribute to the team in other ways...

And I like to be able to have sex for 24 continious hours, but the reality comes up short. I'm sure Bomber would like Joel Corey to be a backman as well as a midfielder, but it's been shown repeatedley over the last 18 months that he's not.

You're comparing absolute apples and oranges here mate. It's polar opposite things to put a young, developing forward in the middle for the first time in a match that you're winning by 20 goals and keep an already potent midfielder in a position he can't play for half a season. Corey was playing as a small defender as early as the disastrous Kangaroos game last year. That's a long time to stay in a position he couldn't play, particularly when there are capable small defenders like Callan twiddling their thumbs in the 2s.

Ling - back in very good tagging form.

Thomspon - Good today, but whats the bet we lose to a hawks/roos/freo/ type team in a week or two?

I didn't say I agreed with it. Merely explaining as to why Bomber did it. I agree with it, try players in different spots. It's working with Mackie this year. It's not like Corey's been terrible when played down back either...
