We've got the old grandma in front of us who wishes she was in the cheer squad and always attempts to get the chant going (this in the terraces). She also seems to think 'Geelong' is actually two words.

Obviously didn't visit the Gary Ablett terrace - mostly young, lots of families, all with their own teeth, not too much grog, a few old ducks who think every player is Josh Hunt and he's in the 2s, a few Serbs who pepper their own langauge with f##k, good-natured cross-section of Aus society. You see the world differently when you lose!

I have a mate in England (we swapped football teams.. Im a Gunners supporter apparantly, and he goes for the Cats).. but he always refers to them as "The Geelongs".. shits me so much!!! Given up correcting him.

As for funny things heard at the footy.. love the classic line directed at Mick Martyn.. "Get away from the fence Mick! Ya scaring the kids!"...

also.. a guy sitting behind us at KP, years ago quoted.. "Now if everyone in the team contributes the one percenters.. that's 22 per cent right there"

Guy next to me was telling me that he was in a corporate box at the Richmond game and decided to have a bourbon after every goal. Poor guy was absolutely tanked at half time. :D Ended up getting home at 2am, and he had to work the next day.

This is what's so entertaining on this board. Many laughs to be had - often at our own expense. Then we get the twits who take it all so seriously - make it even funnier. But - geez - have a look at some of the nasty stuff on other boards! We are restrained even when a Tiger moron or some Freo idiot dips in.:)

I feel guilty when someone hangs it on one of our players and i laugh. Sometimes you just can't help it.
Kent copped a few pearlers when he was around though...

"rooke, you make rahilly look good"

Rooke must have been having a bad day because James Rahilly used to frustrate the hell out of me!
I love the oldies, like the ones above, who get the names mixed up - as far as I know there is no-one currently playing called "Bluey" - that was McGrath - never Ling! But all through the Carlton game they used it whenever Dinga-ling, Ginger, Oil-painting went near the ball.

Funniest thing I ever heard at the footy was in the early 90's when Geelong played St.Kilda and Winmar and Bews were boxing on in the forward pocket when someone yelled out "Hit him with your didgeridoo!" Was funny then, but is probably grounds to being ejected from the stadium nowadays.

I spent many years sitting in the then Hickey Stand with my Gran and also in the old outer with my Pop. Classic oldies comments everyweek. John Harms summed it up last year in one of his articles, that you go to KP and theres old grannies in knitted Geelong Scarves, kids with duffle coats and player badges sewed on, farmers in blunstones and flannies drinking cans of VB with fluffy stubble on their cheeks, you can almost smell the scent of wood fired 44 gallon drums, its country footy dressed up. The best I saw was my Gran hitting WCoast supporters over the head with her brollie at the G in 92 GF.
Bring it on I say.:thumbsu:

It's the different club culture. Give me "old and grumpy" over "high and deluded" any time.
