does anyone think once fit he could be a good addition to our forward line?

would add something we lack, someone with abit of flair!!
Perrie, Bock, Stevens etc.. are all hard working blue collar forwards.

i would say:

Out: Welsh
In: Gill

Welsh in my opinion is quite lazy and lacks the work rate required, forward line defensive pressure is vital these days and Welsh's tackles have been quite pitiful these season.

so a forward line of:

FF: Ricciuto Gill Bode
HF: Thompson Bock Perrie

as much as i'm not a huge fan of Welsh

you don't drop a guy who has just kicked 3 goals for an untried players who kicked 1 in the SANFL reserves.

also isn't bode out ?

Did you watch saturdays game?
Welsh's pressure was the BEST of our forwards. He played a hugely underrated game. 3 goals 2, 13 touches, 8 marks 4 tackles.
I agree that he can be lazy, but his forward pressure this year has greatly improved. He's played some poor games, yes, but on saturday, along with our game against the doggies, he showed forward pressure equal to anyone on our list bar Bode. One particularly brilliant tackle on the half forward line springs immediately to mind.
Does NOT deserve to be dropped on the back of his performance on Saturday.

not this week mate, in the next few weeks.

and welsh's goals were either in junk time or easy ones.....

for someone on a performance based contract he needs more of an output, especially defensively

1 or 2 efforts at a tackle per match isnt good enough.... i still believe if hentschel was fit this year then welsh would have been delisted/traded

He had 4 tackles on the weekend, and ran his guts out all day. Last week was not good enough from him, but he was hardly alone there. He played his best game of the season on Saturday and you choose this week to bag him?

fair enough he played a reasonable game, but lets see how well he plays this week consistency is another big hurdle of his.

i still think Gill is a better option than Welsh, he is taller, prob just as quick, is a better mark but welsh probably kicks a little better than him:

score: Gill = 3
Welsh = 1

Wait till the defender that currently stands Welsh goes to Roo and Welsh gets a lesser defender. In that case Wesh is prob worth more than gill because of that kicking factor. Gill could come in as Bock goes back to defence??? Bocks been struggling of late.

Welsh has played an AFL game
Welsh has kicked an AFL goal
Welsh has got through at least the pre-season and the mojority of the season un injured

Gill - 3
Welsh - 4

Sorry it just ain going to happen......

Yet:)

I'm a fan of Gill after seeing him tear up some good SANFL defenders and would like to see him get a go at some stage, but Welsh is a lot better kick - no probably about it.

With his injury and how it came about due to pressure training , I would think Nick may be left to develop some more in the SANFL , 1. due to players coming back and 2. he needs to demand a spot in our best 22

Um correct me if im wrong but is Welsh not our leading goal kicker?
Wont be dropped any time soon and nor should he be.

He'll probably make his debut for the Crows in the next Showdown so he can stand Thurstans :D

I agree, I thought Welsh was pretty good, some of his work between HF and the wing was very good. I reckon his pace is a bit underrated actually.

Not sure if anyone would get under opposition coaches guards anymore. Assessments will be made of course but a player wont be able to kick 3 goals ( Lucas aside  ) without a coach making a move or asking the player to tighten up

Gill consistently has yet to play a game!

maybe a cold shower is in order.

Who is bagging him ? I think he goes ok in the SANFL.

But to suggest he is a better option than Welsh is stupid. Gill is injured, didnt last the pre season, hasnt played AFL and you think he's a better option than Welsh who has played 150 games ? The same Welsh who kicked 3 on the weekend and has led the club in goal kicking in previous seasons ?

Ridiculous.

Spot on. Not even the slightest possibility of Welsh being replaced by a guy who has done nothing! IMO Welsh is our most reliable forward. Sure he doesnt kick bags every game, but he is more likely too than any other player we have. Oh, and defensively he's second only to Bode when he's there. Gill isnt even in the calculations yet. He needs to be tearing teams up in the SANFL before he'd be considered. McGregor is ahead of Gill and he cant get a gig ATM.

"Goes ok" is an understatement :p

At least Gilly pulled up Ok after the run on the weekend, not sure if he will play for West's Bs or in a North internal this week, then it's Centrals after that so hopefully he's firing that day. I'm glad Port's reserves won on the weekend, both Port and West were bottom and winless and I didn't want Gill running around in a Port top, he was not looking forward to that either.

:)

He's a top line SANFL forward, that's why he is on our list. No one denies that. Until he is picked for the AFC and produces form that surpasses Welsh, I hardly see how he should be placed ahead of him in the pecking order.

I'm looking forward to Gill getting some form and providing another option in attack for the AFC. That would allow another tall to be shifted from attack to defense which would release Mattner on to a wing.

IMO, the experienced, physically developed option of Gill is clearly a better choice than the inexperienced option of Westhoff.

Yes that is why we signed him, as a ready-made cover for a forward with Trent and even Rhett both out for the year. I don't think Welsh should be dropped for Gill either as Gilly hasn't proven that he can perform at AFL level yet. He has to get fit and in form before he should even be considered in my opinion. At least he is very flexible in that he can either roam around the edge of the 50 or play in the goal square where he can sit on the heads of a few unlucky defenders ;)

Ready-made cover probably suggests he may not have been picked otherwise.

I'd like to think that if Trent and Rhett were on the list, he still would have been taken. The boy has a future (5 or 6 years ?) in AFL if he's good enough. Nothing stopping him being the number 1 forward on our list if he applies himself.

Nathan Bock was considered a hack on here only 1 or 2 years ago !

I am not sure if the Crows would have picked him up if we didn't have a couple of big men on the serious injury list, he may have gone interstate.. who knows.. but I'm bloody glad that the Crows got him. Otherwise he would be pissing away in the shittyy VFL while he gets over his injury, Nick would prefer to be at North when he's not with the Crows as he loves the club and the city of Adelaide.

If he gets fit he has a future in the AFL, we don't really have anyone with his kind of flair and marking prowess on our list, even though I guess you could put Trent in that bracket.

I thought Bock was a hack until he bitch slapped Saint Nick!

whats more interesting is if the persistant rumours that Biglands and Hentschel won't be coming back, indicate that he will be staying on for a tad longer ?
