here is the official ressies report....
Clark Keating made a welcome return to the playing field by completing just over two quarters for the Lions Reserves at the Gabba this afternoon. While Keating and Nathan Clarke would have been encouraged by their efforts after months on the injured list, the day was not so happy for lively utility Damian Cupido, who has injured a shoulder again.
Keating spent most of his time up forward and registered just one kick in the first half of the final AFLQ pre-season competition game against Redland Bombers. However, he produced a strong third quarter where he took four marks and kicked three goals, jumping hard at the ball and looking like the dangerous ruckman-forward of old. Keating suffered a foot fracture in late January and the medical staff decided he had played enough game time by the last break and he sat out the last quarter on the interchange bench. Clarke showed he had lost none of his dash in his three, 10-minute stints on the ground and would have been happy just to be out there. He underwent knee surgery in January after battling to shake off the effects of osteitis pubis for the four months prior to that.Cupido replaces him on the injury list although the Lions are hopeful the injury is not nearly as serious as the one he sustained last year. The skilful left-footer missed three months last season after sustaining a dislocation against the Swans in Round 7. He spent some time in the ruck today after battling to get into the game in the opening term, before a collision on the stroke of halftime. Hard working utility Aaron Shattock was also in the hands of the trainers at the end of the game after taking a heavy knock to the knee. Shattock was outstanding yet again in collecting 19 kicks and six handballs, playing out most of the last quarter after hurting the knee earlier in the term. Despite the game being played over 25-minute quarters with no time-on, the Lions Reserves still piled on 27-8-170 to 7-10-52. Full-forward Darren Bradshaw had a field day kicking 11 goals, seven of them in the second half. He kicked four goals in the third term, three of them coming from crumbs off the hands of Keating. Shattock and Craig Bolton contributed to the Lions’ midfield dominance, despite roving to a makeshift ruck combination that included regular key defenders Shane Morrison and Luke Weller in the second half. On the times that Redland did go forward, they ran into a brick wall across their half-forward line where Richard Hadley and Luke Hammond combined superbly to repel everything. The Lions Reserves open their AFLQ premiership defence against Mt Gravatt at Mt Gravatt next Sunday. Scores:Lions, 5-3, 11-4, 21-7, 27-8-170 Redland Bombers, 0-4, 2-5, 4-7, 7-10-52. Goals, Lions: Bradshaw 11, Constable 4, Headland 3, Keating 3, Gram, Hadley, Cupido, Wright, Bolton, Weller. Possessions, Lions: Hadley 25, Shattock 25, Bolton 24, Bradshaw 24, Raines 20, Hammond 17, Gram 17, Headland 15. Best, Lions: Bradshaw, Hadley, Shattock, Hammond Bolton.
We had Bushies as all our fill ins. Nick Van Bekkum, Nic Aldridge, Kyall Glew, Chris Constable, Evan Koch, Dave West.
i think that that was all... but i can't quite remember... i was just happy to see them out there.... hope to see it that way many times this year...... i hear that at least one of those guys played 2 a game before that game... so it was great to see them that excited to play with the reserves.
