Sturt have not only shaken off the slow season starts but until today they had never beaten the merged dregs at Woodville Oval.

Another easy win.

Sturt 17 19 (121)
WWT 10 4 (64)

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, a bye next week and then give Glenelg's 49 goal record a shake against Glenelg at Unley.Eagles kicked 1 more goal than that but that looks better.

Actually I think that may be the incorrect score. Anyone got the actual one?

Erm we actually won 121-71 :D

Pleasing effort by the boys today despite pathetic umpiring in the first half (sorry about that BB!).The Eagles dictated play throughout the first half and Sturt couldn't get it's usual running play into gear. When we did get possesion of the ball we tried to be too fancy and it came unstuck and we failed to score. To the boys credit they stuck with the eagles in the first half to only trail by 2 points at half time despite having a **** deal from the umpires. Usually in a situation like this we would crumble like a sack of crap and allow them to run all over us.

Second half was all Sturt. We were hard at the ball and hard at the player and managed to hit the player on the chest. We went back to basics, playing our running game and making the Eagles chase guernesys. French stood up in the second half and was easily one of our best on ground in the second half. Thurstans stood up and was impressive all day but ran all over his opponent in the second half.

I personally didn't think we would win down there today but was proud of the way that we stuck at our game plan.

great result, looks like we are in for a good year.

Sticks is certainly a thinking coach and makes good moves easy when u r winning i suppose) but I am trying to make the point that we are certainly not going to be as predictable as when Phil coached. His move of throwing Thurstans into ruck to give French a rest early in the 3/4 seemed to work really well.

Any news on Feast's injury and why Conway didn't play?

Feasty should be right for the game against Glenelg. Some kinda knee injury. Conway not playing was purely a gamble him out and Whitey in.

Coad in the reserves looks a gem, Anne.

Any idea how old he is, or is he from our juniors ?

Conway played in the 2's, who, incidentally went down by a point. I don't think the earlier posts actually got the point across on just how bad the umpires were. They were absolutely dreadful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One eagle should have been reported, but we were penalised 25 metres and they got a free goal. It sucked big time. But it turned out okay 'coz the Eagles made promises their bodies couldn't keep, and they went down big-time. French was sensational, also Tim, Brodie was all class( Who needs speed, when you've got footy smarts?), and there were numerous other contributors--------ALL PLAYED WELL!!!!
GYBB!!!!!!!!!

Callers on 5DN after the match indicated that, in agreeance were commentators Rob Popplestone and George Fiacchi.

Of course Anne knows how old he is, she inspects them before they sign with the club.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first time since 1978 that the Blues have won the first three games of the season?

Certainly is, 1981 we were 2 wins and a draw after round 3.

Sturt were far too good in teh second half

The umpiring WAS abysmall - both ways

Richard Williams should never umpire a league game again.

Sturt player takes a mark and attempts to run off with the ball. He is stopped from doing so 5 metres in front of where he caught the ball. The umpire blows the whislte for the mark - Eagle player lets go of him so he can go back over the mark - sturt player takes a step forward handballs it on and they kick a goal

You can't play on from over hte mark after the umpire has stopped paly - APPALING stuff.

But it was like that both ways ALL DAY.

French is far too good to be playing at that level.

Only positive for me was seing young Brent Reilly show some very good signs in the reserves including a great goal from the boudnary in the last quarter.

I stood with a group of Sturt supporters, so it made for an entertaining afternoon.

There's always next week.

Record overall is not that good either 23 losses & only 5 wins against the EAGLES.

Sturt were too good in the second half today -

I would have though all of white's goals were in the second half whilst steven hall (who had been killing him) was off injured

It is early days - remember Norwood won their first 8 last year and finished 4th.

For mine Centrals only opponent come GF day will be their own complacency

I dunno why Frenchy got dropped from the Power in the first place. I think Brogan might be ahead of him tho for a callup to the Power side.
How is Toby Thurstans going?? Is he playing as good as last year? Would his form warrant the Power to take notice??

And Mark Mckenzie...he was BOG for Eagles....he is on Ports rooke list...and eagles fans wanna gimme a run down on what he is like??

Macca

McKenzie looks to be a real prospect after seeing him yesterday.

I think he is too lightly built at the moment for AFL as he looks like a stick, but his composure on the ball seems to be very good and he also kicked a nice goal.

He could play half back half forward or in the midfield I would have thought.

hard to tell from one game but he played well in the first half.

No-one did anything in the second half for us, although Laverne did some good tackles and tried hard.

I honestly don't know where Coad came from but I will find out. he will certainly be a player of the future.

I'm pretty sure he's younger than me, sadly :(

Well yes I usually do Paul, but this one slipped through my fingers. I know absolutely nothing about him apart from he came from Tumby Bay.

I will however be paying closer attention to him :D

I never thought I would agree with you Jars but yes I have to agree with you! The umpires were abysmall all days and the stuff they missed was so obvious it's too sicking for words!

I know why Frenchy got dropped *ner ner ner*. I would safely say that Brogan will get a call up before French.

Toby Thurstans to me has been the real stand out player in our matches so far. He's held our back line together in the past couple of weeks when the other have gone walk abouts.

I would say he's playing a lot better than last year, a much more mature game and should certainly warrant a second look from the Power.
