News
Max Rooke will play his first game for the season after being recalled to face the Fremantle Dockers on Saturday at Skilled Stadium.

Rooke had shoulder surgery at the end of last season, then battled hamstring issues during the pre-season. Now fully recovered and with four VFL games under his belt, Rooke returns to the senior line up.

Tom Hawkins drops back to the VFL. Hawkins has kicked 11 goals in six games since debuting in round two against Carlton. Geelong coach Mark Thompson flagged during the week that the need to give Hawkins a rest could be this week, and that’s how it played out.

Skipper Tom Harley will line up in the VFL for his first game since rupturing the tendon in his little finger in the opening round. Paul Chapman will miss for a second week with a hamstring injury.

Geelong’s team to face the Dockers

B: Andrew Mackie – Matthew Scarlett – Corey Enright
HB: David Johnson – Matthew Egan – Darren Milburn
C: David Wojcinski – Jimmy Bartel – James Kelly
HF: Joel Selwood – Nathan Ablett – Steve Johnson
F: Gary Ablett – Cameron Mooney – Travis Varcoe
Foll: Brad Ottens – Joel Corey – Cameron Ling
Int: Max Rooke, Mark Blake, Mathew Stokes, Kane Tenace
Emerg: Josh Hunt, Brent Prismall, Henry Playfair

Pretty happy with that.

Strong looking team. Shame Chappie's not available, but having Rooke back is excellent.

Very good player who will get his chance, there will be the inevitable injuries, loss of form etc...
We find ourselves in the fortunate position where form dictates who's in and not neccesity.

The reporter's name is Josh Lyman? That's gold!! Shouldn't he be running the white house?

Anyways it's good to see Rooke back in the team and I'm glad the selectors haven't overburdened Tomahawk. He's been very quiet the last few weeks and a run in the reserves will do him a world of good. Also happy that King hasn't been fast tracked back into the team on the back of one good VFL performance. The Great Man, Blakey, is on fire these days and shouldn't be booted out to make way for King, nor should we select three rucks in the squad.

Great team, considering the weather report was for wet and windy conditions on Saturday. Hopefully Freo brought Warnock in and will get bogged down in the wet as we run rings around them. :thumbsu:

Peter Bell has said every time he has come to Geelong its been freezing cold. Looks like things are not going to change this time either

I'm glad you mentioned Varcoe, I have loved his work since he's played in the seniors. His running is fantastic and he really understands the effort required around the ground, evidenced by his one-percenters. Good onya Trav!!

Good one. I think we're lucky that Jeff Farmer is out too - he seems to rip us a new one regularly.

yeah noticed that too.

Good also to see that Skilled Stadium specialist, M Stokes kept his spot.

I hope all freo players are listeneing to their captiain Bell about how cold and uncomfortable it is down at Geelong.

Pretty happy with that.

Everyone expected Hawkins to be dropped but I read with interest Dermott Brereton's comments last week - he was reported to say that even though Hawkins was not going that well, because of his size he took a big defender which "freed up" Mooney and NAB a bit.

Also the fact is he has been used sparingly in all games and that makes it really difficult. He did some nice things last week and was a bit unlucky. I just have the feeling the FORWARD line looks better with the three 6' 5" blokes plus Ottens rotating through there.
Of course, if it was really wet, that may change.
The result may prove me wrong but I love those big targets. It makes the defence struggle.

Welcome back Roookkkeyyy!!! :D

Sorry to see Hawk dropped, but kicking a bag of 8-9 in the ressys wont do him any harm.

Good change - no need to go overboard after two wins. Hawkins in the twos is a good move, I can't see him doing too well in the wet and a scrapper like Rooke is better suited to the conditions. Great to have him back!

Dont know who to drop though, but shouldnt Prismall be in too? Maybe Tenace out?

Prismall is on FIRE.
