VERY impressed with thompsons selections this week
resting hawkins, harley in vfl instead of jumping straight back into the team and chapman having another week off to be safe

and best of all no king, usually if he ripped up the reserves hed be first on the list

He is now listening to us,that's the difference!

He also has guys like Sando and Neil Balme around, I think that all those factors combined, plus a degree of success and team readiness are all conspiring to make us all very happy.

The inside word I had (my father-in-law) was that Balmie wasn't listened to at Collingwood and that he's really enjoying his time with Geelong.

Sounds like they took Hasleby's comments to heart also ie quick movement of the footy and lots of in close pressure to try beat us this week...so dropped a tall for a mid.

Hawkins got 6 weeks of straight senior footy and in hindsight thats probably enough for a kid his age and size. Letting King and Harley find true form and fitness in the vfl is certainly a change of thinking and deserves the credit it is due.

It's round 8 though so long way to go and even if we lose by just a point this week against what I consider to be very good opposition I am sure people will be saying its the same old Geelong and the same old Bomber.

I think we'll win but it wont be as easy as it might seem or even look regardless of the score line. We beat West Coast by 39 pts and that was a very tough afternoon's work.

Bombers doing ok at the moment, but remember the big bad bomber could show his head at any time.

Players are finally getting a game on merit now, not just because of their name, which is a definite positive. This time last year Blake would've played 4 AFL and 4 VFL games because of King coming back from injury and getting injured. Seems that he's enjoying the stability and showing us all what he's capable of. Must've been hard on him last year knowing no matter how well he played in the seniors, he'd be back in the VFL as soon as King returned.

Supposedly alot of his reposnsibilities have been delegated out. I'm not so sure he has changed but the structure has

No doubt in my mind that at least some of the credit goes to Balmy. He's doing a good job at taking some of the pressure of Bomber and I'm sure he's providing lots of advice behind the scenes too.

Probably the best move the club has made in years, and to me it looks like there is a good team in place now - Cooky, Bradshaw, Costa, Balmey and so on. In fact I think it would be close to the best off-field setup in football. Now if only we could get a billionaire president when Frank decides to move on (as Carlton did).

Some of it is Bomber too. I think the review forced him to recognise that he can't carry the can for everything that goes wrong and that the players have to be accountable for their actions. Good on him.

I am actually really happy with the choices too. As previously mentioned In the past there is no doubt that Harley, King & Rooke would have gone straight back in the team underdone while Blake and Tenace would have been dropped like a stone.

I am really happy with the changes at the club and I think it has made a massive impact. It has allowed so many players to step up

Hopefully the North game was just as an abberation and the Hawthorn game we merely failed to adapt to the conditions. Against Westcoast we showed just how good we can be.

i still dont know why kelly automatically walked in after missing the 2-3 weeks through suspension. he still should have been made to play at least 1 VFL game.

Good point. I wonder if Kelly had been made to go back through the VFL, and someone like Prismall or Stokes (or whoever) was given his place in that game, whether Kelly would still be struggling to get a place in the seniors?

Was that the Selwood got his rest after being a late inclusion the week before? I think Prismall played as well.

Kelly was suspended and didn't miss any training and therefore was fit,Harley on the other hand couldn't do any ball work for weeks and needs to regain his touch.

yeah, i understand that, i guess i just think that he should have come through the VFL. he still would not have had much "game" practice.

i dont think he is in the top tier of players that gets an automatic pass into the senior team.

Kelly's last 2 games have been pretty good IMO.
His Disposal has been wayward at times, but has chased, tackled and pressured like he used to.

Can't really knock Bomber the last two weeks, team selection, playing the correct players [ Corey and Bartel ] in the center square, does make you ponder the question though, why has it taken till now to do what has been blindingly obvious?

no doubting that sarah, his committment thus far has been faultless, his disposal full of faults.

just should not be a straight walk into the 22, regardless of suspension or injury.

Get your point, but his in now and will stay in as long as he plays well(as it should be). There are plenty of players lining up for a spot in the teamsuch as Prismall, which is a very good position to be in.:)
