Hi Lions fans,
Unless you are in Melbourne, you probably haven't been following any of this but i am doing a project with ABC 774 radio in Melbourne where i am trying to pick a team to support by going to a game with fans of each of the 16 teams in the AFL. (I'm originally from Newcastle and have got this far in my life without ever settling on an AFL team).
Basically, i pick a game and a team each weekend i go into ABC (in Melbourne) radio on Frdiays at about 4:45 and ask for someone to call in to meet me at the game and introduce me to their club (i pay my own way!). Basically, i do whatever they do - so if you go with you're a grandma and you take the grand kids i'll go along with that, or if you go with 40 mates and yell abuse and drink til you pass out, i'll do that. I record the highlights or low lights of the game and go back into the ABC on Mondays at about the same time and "review" the game, the team and the fans.
By the end of the home and away season i will pick the team i'm gonna stick with for life. Having lived with a lions fan during 2 of their 3 grand final wins, i feel like i know them quite well already and i kind of live on the edge of Fitzroy - which i like to think is a bit of a connection.
They'll do a call out on the radio but i need someone to call into the ABC in Melbourne on Friday (today!) at about quarter to ffive. So if you're in Melbourne and you are up for spending the arvo tomorrow with someone with a microphone asking you why The Lions are the best club on earth, then call in!
Given that it is in Melbourne, any old Fitzroy fans would be welcome (if you're a displaced Queenslander we can square off about our origin prospects on the side). Anyhow, have a look at my blog, leave some comments, tell me what you think, etc.
