Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but i searhed the thread titles and couldn't see it anywhere.

How is Matty doing in your local comp?

Before the draft i was hoping we would get Gumby, so obviously was very happy, but there was also a lot of talk about us possibly taking Matty.

I have a very high opinion of him and believe he is almost the most talented young ruckman i have seen.

I've heard a few reports here and there about him having osteo, but i think he is over it now and back playing in your local league.

Has any one here seen him playing and if so could they please give some feedback on him?

Thanks in advance.....

PS: I think you have a real gun on your hands there.

Showing great signs in AFLQ. I definately think Leuenberger & Gibbs were a class above the rest, but both have yet to prove it. Do not remember when he debuted but against the Eagles (AFLQ), Berger scored 4 goals. The next week he scored 2 goals.

6 goals in two games as a forward is not bad. Not sure whether he played on the weekend against Mt. Gravatt, but Suncoast lost 8.14 62 to 12.24 96. :(

Also thought Proud was playing fantastically before sustaining an injury, was looking like the first to debut in 2006, but now Schmidt is ahead of him. Just out of curiosity, I checked Proud's stats (roughly), they are as follows-

Games- 3
Goals- 3
Best- x3

No huge surprise there. Schmidt has been listed in the best for 6 weeks now, and named as an emergency twice. None of the other draftees are close to that kind of form line.

Draft order has very limited direct connection with speed to debut. You draft who think will be the best player in 5 years -- not who will play first.

Our two lowest draftees -- Tyler and Sheldon -- looked more likely than any of the others to debut first during the early part of the season before injuries dented their chances.

And Kiel looked more likely than all of them.

The future sure does look bright for Brisbane, we have had two tall players given the Rising Star this season, that goes with the 7 running players named over the last few years :thumbsu:

You'd think Schmidt, Berger, Proud and Kiel are the type to get a nomination and potentially win the award at seasons end!

To win the award, you've got to perform well over the 22 rounds. Look at Marc Murphy last year - was going to win it in a canter but missed half the season with injury, so missed out.

You'd think that Mitch and Woody would have to star for the rest of the year to have any chance. Even if the other runners eg Schmidt get a nomination, they probably won't have enough time to impress.

There's of course hope for next year as long they play less than 10 games this year.

But of course, we know the award itself isn't that meaningful.

What I meant, as of next year (there abouts). It's pretty farfetched to winn the wared with 12 rounds or so...but, ya never know. Personally I don't think Proud will play much this yera, maybe 2 games or so. But next year, injuries aside, I think he could play 22 games.

Would be fair to say at this stage that Proud is the least well performed of our 2006 draftees.

Maybe TBD but as Sherminator pointed out he has done okay as well. This year's crop seem to be exciting prospects right across the board and really could be the backbone of our rebuilding effort. Given that we haven't seen them play in the top flight though, other than preseason, it is probably a bit early to make the call but they are certainly keeping me interested and a few of them might well figure prominantly in the rising star next year. I still wouldn't mind getting at least another nominee this year and I am hoping that Colm gets one. Given his consistency and quality use of the ball he just probably needs one 20+ possession game to secure a nom.

Agreed. Schmidt looks like the likely type to win a nomination, too. He really likes to take on the more experienced players, once he can succesfully duck and weave through traffic, he'll be a fantastic play maker.

I think we got a real gem at Pick. 34. Given time he'll become a very solid player :thumbsu:

Who cares about nominations?

I would rather they turn into a great player regardless of a Rising Star nominations.

It really means very little.
