Felt like wasting some time and wallowing in some parochialism, so, if i were picking a team of the best 22 WA players on current form, this is who i'd go with, and why.
Forwards: Jeff Farmer Troy Wilson Phil Matera
Wilson still has a lot to prove, but on current form he is one of the very best FFs in the league, and certainly the best WA boy... Farmer and Phil Matera in the same forward line would give any opposition coach nightmares.

Half Forwards: Jason Ball Jonathan Hay Daniel Chick
With Gaspar playing FB, i thought it might be worth giving Hay a run on the HF line. Ball Can switch with Gardiner and Longmuir.

Centre Line: Simon Black Josh Carr S WoeWodin
Black and Woewodin are obvious choices, whilst Josh Carr is a quality centreman, and an excellent tagger.

Half Backs: Tarkyn Lockyer Glen Jakovich Darren Glass.
Jakovich is back to his best, and Lockyer gives some creativity and run from the HB line. Glass may seem a controversial choice, but on present form he has been excellent, and will only get better- every team needs some young guns.

Backs: Byron Pickett Darren Gaspar Peter Matera
Whilst also a lethal forward, Pickett is by far the best small WA defender floating around. Gaspar is arguably the best FB in the league, whilst veteran Peter Matera provides leg speed, flawless disposal, and superb tackling and tagging.

Followers: Ben Cousins, Peter Bell
Enough said :)

Ruck: Michael Gardiner.
Strong, quick, great mark and can play CHF as well.

Interchange: Jarrad Schofield, Dean Rioli, Daniel Kerr, Justin Longmuir.
Versatility on the bench, with all of these guys as multiple position players. Longmuir and Kerr are both quality young guns, Schofield is a top midfielder.
Well thats it, *sigh* wouldn't you love to coach this team?

What about Steven Armstrong?? I'd have him in ahead of Glass, Lockyer and Jason Ball!

The guy has played three games. It would be like putting Chris Judd in the Best Vic 22. See how they perform over two seasons at least, not over 3 games.

Depends where you're going to play him- Maybe I haven't done my research, but i got the impression Armstrong played his best football in the midfield? With Bell, Cousins, Woewodin, Carr, Schofield, Chick, Rioli, Kerr and Simon Black floating around, I couldn't find a spot in the midfield for Armstrong.

True, but I woulda thought Armstrong had done more in those three games than a Glass or Lockyer, but you have a point.

Ten times as many Vics to WA players in the AFL tho, so it's easier to put Armstrong in than Judd!

I think the decision is more positions wise. There were enough quality midfielders and another tall defender and small defender was needed.

He might have been able to sneak on to the bench I would have thought.

Hay up forward is a mistake too, I would have thought. He is MILES better down back.

Uhuh, but then where would you play Gaspar? Actually, i found it quite surprising how difficult it was to find a good WA HF/ HB line- (maybe that was why i felt the need to try and sneak Croad in on false pretences?) Gone are the days of Mckenna, Jakovich and Worsfold, I'm afraid.

Armstrong has a ways to go just yet and i would have had a few midfielders in before him. Is Jones, Banfield, Fletcher, sandgropers? They would all get a guernsey before Armstrong IMO. Braun too but i think he a vic..

Isnt Collica a WA boy, if so he deserves a spot, maybe not on current form but he was brilliant last season.

Uhuh, but then where would you play Gaspar? There's an easier way - pick All-Australian style! Cram 'em in any old how, even if you've got to put Cousins in a forward pocket.

Er, hang on, we've tried that this year, haven't we?

On current form:

FF: Ph.Matera.......T.Wilson...........P.Medhurst
HF: P.Barnard.......J.Longmuir.......J.Farmer
CS: D.Chick...........P.Bell .............Pe.Matera
HB: D.Glass...........G.Jakovich.. ....J.Clement
FB: J.Carr..............A.Nicholson......A.McIntosh

RR: M.Gardiner......S.Black............B.Cousins

IB: R.Mott, P.Haselby, T.Cook, J.Schofield

Hay, Gaspar and Ball haven't played enough footy this year to be included. Naturally they'll be instant selections later on.

Oh, and Byron Pickett is South Australian.
