2001 Preliminary final ...

Essendon 4 goals from free kicks inside 50 in the first quarter alone :eek::eek:

Just loves those Bombers does Goldy ... Even Humphrey-Smith has joked about it on SEN, calling it THAT GAME ...

We just have to hope and pray that he gets rostered onto as few Hawk games as possible. We surely go out onto the field against teams of 23 when he umpires against us....

Well I guess he finally decided to lay off the Krispy Kremes.

Hawthorn's finals odds will drop inversely proportional to the rise in Essendon's finals odds.

Not sure I like the idea of an umpire holding a membership from any club.... could be seen as playing favourites at times....

Surely they should be the ultimate in neutral?

Still teary about Round 6 much? And that wasn't with a bunch of free kicks paid inside 50.

Even without holding a membership, he'd still support them. A membership wouldn't make him support them any more than he already does

In a couple of weeks time they'll get a whole new couple of finals to whinge about for another 6 years.

I still think it is a conflict of interest. I love it how people quote free kick stats like it means something. "The free kick count was even so it must have been fair" - why? In fact is seems somewhat strange that it always would be. If the game isnt even then chances are the free kick count wont be either. Stupid statement I hear on here all the time - and in the media too. "4 free kicks inside 50 in the first quarter" - If they are there they are there. doesn't matter if it is in the goal square or the back pocket.

They're not there if the ump in question starts paying the 'hands in the back rule' 5 years before it's even thought of.....
