The likes of Schmidt,Phillps,Grundy,Moore, must all be looked at for some game time some of the old guard have been given to long and its well over due from my thinking enough is enough if its going to be taken on form well Schmidt and Phillips Grundy would have to be given a go in my opinion
P.S No need to blame the umpiring its not going to change the end result now and it could have been the other way round then how would things seem for mine Spiders brain fade or lack of it shouldnt have let that point very poor from a player like him and a couple of missed shot dont help.

There is a meeting later today I hear to chat a few things over and one thing I can say Schmidt, Phillips,Grundy could all be chances
But for mine to call so early Schmidt should play next week

I disagree, the side is still highly competetive in it's lose's despite very poor form from some of our top players, other team's still view us as the team to beat includeing the egirls, playing much better football than last year,
I have no dout the swans will be holding the cup in 2007 The team is looking awesome:thumbsu:
We don't need hall to kick goals, we don't need goodes in good form to win, wait till these guys and other's (includeing mcviegh) to peak towards the end of the year...:D
We don't need to finnish in the top four, both us and the egirls have proven that if your good enough you can win it from any where in the 8

It's stupid Auskick didn't play in the reserves this week. #50 is anorexic, Auskick should be playing instead of him.

You need to acquaint yourself with the rules that have been imposed on the Swans this year in the ACTAFL. To try and balance up the contests, the Swans are not allowed to field more than 18 listed players (including rookies) in any one game and aren't allowed more than 15 on the ground at any time.
Hence top-ups are getting games while listed players have to sit out. It is a pretty frustrating rule given that it doesn't seem to have done anything to balance the contests out but we have to live with it.
With such a low injury list (I think only DOK and Crouch weren't fit to play this weekend), some players have to be rested and they generally rotate them around. It was just Flipper's turn this week.
Did think it was odd, though, that they rested Phillips and Jack in the one game. They were seriously missing a small, speedy presence on the forward line yesterday.
I also thought the three top-ups wearing 50, 52 and 54 put in very creditable performances. Their pressure skills were terrific and none of them was scared to throw their bodies into contests.
As for Schmidt, I thought his game was of such a standard as to demand a senior game next week, regardless of how the seniors went, especially since he's already shown he can play at senior level. As it turns out, there are a few candidates sticking up their hands to make way for him. Maybe Crouch's return will be a spanner in the works, though I also wonder whether Ablett might have suffered some damage to the rib area that could cause him to miss.

I get this, i just think it was stupid that Auskick didn't play this week seeing you'd think that he would almost be ready for another shot in the seniors.

I said almost the exact same thing in my thread and you said I was being too critical.
Why the change of heart?
No changes will be made.

Agree Nat.
Those players who are on the verge of playing in the ones should not be part of that rotation, we need them to keep playing and showing their ready to jump into the seniors.

Yeah, 3 big games and all of them are must wins! I couldn't say i was confident on any of them but i'm sure they'll all be exciting. I can't wait for the Geelong one especially seeing it'll be my first game at Skilled!

A couple of days ago I too noted the next month as being crucial for determining whether the Swans could grab a top 4 spot. Sadly, of those four game, yesterday's was the one I had down as being the most winnable.
Next three are going to be very very tough and if we don't win at least two, top 4 is going to be next to impossible.

I can't see us making the top 4.
We will struggle to make the 8. Next 4 games will all be tough.

Well if one of the little tykes are to get a game, they better hope its this week because the reserves don't play for another 3 weeks! And even then they've been shunted out of the curtain raiser spot for the Collingwood game by the NSW/ACT Rams!

Would we be talking about this if the Swannies had won? It was a heart breaking loss. And we still do have a chance. Until there's no chance at all that we'll make it to the finals then i don't see why we have to 'start looking into the future'. In those last few mins the guys could've said bugger it and just have given up. But to get back and be 1 kick from victory shows that they still have it.
It was just that we didn't have much luck last night.

Yes and no. A real premiership contender should have been able to beat a so-so Essendon team at home with relative ease. It's not as if the Bombers played particularly well - though I did think they played smart and disciplined, but their skills were pretty variable like the Swans'.
It wasn't so much the loss as the way it unfolded. (Though if we'd snuck home with the four points, the mood might be a little different.)

Did we play Essendon in the same round that year or later on? When did we play Richmond? Was that the round before or after the split round? I can't find the 05 results and it's annoying me..

here's the early tip: we'll beat hawthorn....in fact, having not even looked at the draw for nextweek, i'll say we're the bet of the round, and we'll beat geelong too....not sure about pies

nah, you can't look at it that way anymore..."a real premiership contender would've beaten..."
footy's not like that, most teams can beat other teams...i'm sure the crows fans will be spewing at losing to melbourne, but none of them would'ev sat down and thought the loss means they're not real premiership contenders (even though, personally, i've dismissed the crows from the outset this year)....we lost to a far worse dons team in round 1 last year and it meant absolutely nowt in september....

We beat Hawthorn by 69 points at home, Brisbane by a goal (after the siren) away, Essendon by a goal at home, Port by (I think) four goals at home and the Bulldogs by 13 points at home.
We lost to the Kangaroos by four goals in Canberra, Adelaide by about seven goals at home, Melbourne by about five goals at home, West Coast by 45 points in Perth and St Kilda by about 50 points at Docklands.
It's pretty clear: we were in worse form in the first ten rounds of 2005 than we are presently.
The benchmark is making the top four. That is becoming difficult, but it's supposed to be difficult.

I'd agree with this. We're were only 4 points off recording a 7-3 start to the year. Not exactly woeful form.

So we played Richmond after Collingwood?
I really should just go and watch that season highlights DVD.
Okay, just remembered, we did play Richmond the week after. I missed the Collingwood game seeing i was in Tokyo and then on the next Saturday i was showing the neighbours the photos thinking that Sydney were gone and when i came home they were fighting back but unfortunately fell short.. argh.
Over the years there have been a very good reserves player who just hasn't got the package to play seniors.I believe Phillips is one of these guys. His dedication and work rate cannot be questioned but his size will hold him back. The fact that he was drafted came as a surprise to alot of people and he has grabbed his opportunities with both hands.I would love to see him develop into a senior player but I have my doubts.Hope I'm wrong.

I said this 3 weeks ago and I'll repeat it; Schmidt is not the answer to our problems.
Schmidt is a clearance player who is as slow as a wet week.
Winning the clearances is not the problem (we beat Essendon 38 - 31).
If we are missing something it is a fast long kicking midfielder; cue Laidlaw.
We need run and carry, Schmidt can't do that. If Laidlaw isn't selected then Moore should be the next option. Moore has the advantage he can also play as a crumbing forward.
Unless Roos wants to make a statement I think it's quite possible there won't be any changes this week.
Sure we didn't play particularly well, but you can't compare the game against Essendon with the woeful performances against St Kilda & to a lesser extent v NM.

So question if size is his problem
And then add he hasnt got the package do you mean or it seems that you mean the only package he is missing is height
So yet you rate him on everythink else which is interesting
And if size is going to hold anyone back there are alot of players the same height or smaller who where and are great players which is what makes me think in your opinion they wouldnt have played at all at AFL
And why should there have been people that surprised ?

do the sydney reserves smash all the other reserves teams? thats the feedback that i get.
do the sydney reserves smash all the other reserves teams? thats the feedback that i get.
They've not been beaten for two and a half seasons, and their current percentage is over 400% (or it was before last week's game - they only won by around 60 points so it will have come down a bit). Against a couple one of the teams - Canberra Wildcats - a winning margin of less than 200 points would be considered a close game. And they've beaten a couple of other of the teams by 200+ margins too.

I am having serious trouble locting where your guys play. It is obviously not the Sydney league with North Shore and the like.
Just curious to see how a few of your youngsters are going thats all.

agreed. But what they achieved in 2005 was miraculous. To repeat it would be... words fail me.
Anyway, it all starts this Saturday against an in-form Hawthorn. Certainly its not time to blood a whole lot of 1st gamers. Pick the 22 most likely to get the result. A poor showing against the hawks and it might be.

They play in the ACTAFL, which is deemed to be a stronger competition than the local SFL.
You can get results from this site but you have to register and select the competitions you're interested in.
http://www.sportingpulse.com/
Alternatively there is a link to the reserves reports on www.sydneyswans.com.au but the reports aren't great and they sometimes take a while to update it.
RWO has some regular reserves watchers including one who provides his own reports most week. So the front page of that site is another place to go, though for games played in ACT (as opposed to those in Sydney) we don't always have reports.
