Just wanted some news on the injury front as to who may/may not be available this week for the swans match.

Croad?
Ladson?
Dixon?

Is Hodgey's hammy ok? Saw him feeling for it in the last quarter of the game yesterday. Any news or insight would be greatly appreciated.

From reports, Croad and Laddo will be back this week. Dixon will be 2 weeks, possibly 3 pending results of scan.

Hodgy actually had a corked thigh, not a hammy according to the Hun. He is in doubt although knowing his pain threshold and fitness, he is likely to play. :thumbsu:

Thats great news! Hodgey will push through that as you say! Whilst on the subject of Hodgey's toughness and strength, how good was the man yesterday when the port boys tried hard to dish a bit up to us. He was really good at giving it back twice as hard! Gee i am glad you are on our team Luke!!!!

Good info on the Hawks website. It looks like Croad might be in some trouble with his foot requiring scans, if he requires rest then we could give him the next two games off and then with the break, he will have a month to recover.
While that was the bad news, the most positive news was that Williams is on schedule to play this year, he has 3 weeks left on crutches and will pick up his progress after that. Vanders might not also be out for the year. Dixon will be available after the break.
If we are going to make the finals we need all the above experienced players fit to make an impact.
No mention of Thorpe or Hodge so hopefully they are ok.

Vandenberg to miss a month

HAWKS skipper Richie Vandenberg is expected to be sidelined for at least a month after scans confirmed torn ligaments in his shoulder following an injury sustained in Saturday's VFL match.

The club's football operations manager Mark Evans said Vandenberg underwent scans on Saturday night after the incident. He will be out for a minimum of four weeks with further assessment later this week to determine exactly when he will be available.

"He had scans on the weekend. He has a rupture of ligaments in the AC joint in his shoulder," Evans told hawthornfc.com.au on Monday.

"He'll need to be in a harness for a couple of days. Then we can better assess where he's at after that period.

"He certainly won't be available to play football anywhere in the next month. He hasn't been ruled out for the year yet, but we'll have a better understanding of when he'll return by the middle of the week.

"The first thing is to immobilise the arm and the joint. Then we assess the strength and the movement that he's got in about 48 hours."

Evans said Vandenberg was "tackled and taken to the ground with his arms pinned" in the incident during the match at Box Hill. As they were interstate, the club's coaching staff found out about the skipper's latest setback via a phone call.

"We were in Adelaide, so we only got a phone report, but I called around to see him on Sunday night and our doctor came around and had a look at him. They'll have another look at him on Monday afternoon, but that was the plan of action on Sunday night," he said.

Vandenberg has played only one senior match this year owing to a series of injury problems, but is optimistic his season is not finished.

"He was in good spirits on Sunday and is pretty determined to get on with whatever he's got to get on with and get back into the team," Evans said.

"Richie has been a part of every match we've played in to date, even when he has been injured with his hamstring and back.

"He's sat in the coaches' box and he's been continuing to do all the off-field leadership stuff, so that won't change [during this layoff]."

Evans also said experienced forward Ben Dixon could miss three weeks with a hamstring injury sustained against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

"Ben tore his hamstring early in the game on Sunday and we're expecting that he'll miss two to three weeks with that," he said.

"It's not even the halfway point of the year and he'll be back in the team before we know it."

Trent Croad (foot) and Rick Ladson (back) were both late withdrawals from Sunday's team, and while Evans confirmed Croad was suffering soreness in the foot that sidelined him for three weeks earlier this year, both could be considered this week.

"Croady trained the day before the game and noticed that he had a sore foot at the end of training," he said.

"We gave it overnight, it didn't settle down and he was taken out of the game and replaced with Jarryd Roughead. It's the same foot he had injured earlier in the year, but we don't know if it's the same injury. We'll know more after scans.

"Rick Ladson had a sore back and didn't participate much in training on the Saturday, and it also didn't get any better on Sunday morning, so he was replaced with Xavier Ellis."

Mark Williams is also progressing well and is expected to play again this season, although not until deep into the home-and-away calendar.

"He's still on crutches, he's got another three weeks on crutches before he comes off. He's going as expected as this stage," Evans said.

"He'll slowly build up once he comes off crutches. He'll start off with some walking and some in-pool walking.

"It's a one-step-at-a-time approach with him. He thinks if he looks after it and it progresses well, he'll come back in for maybe the last third of the season."

Midfielder Luke Hodge is expected to be fine to play against the Swans on Saturday, despite coming off late in Sunday's game with a corked thigh.
