Will we retire it ? Will he give it to a young gun that he rates the highest(stuey lowe n kozi situation and burkey n xav clarke) ?? Will a new draftee get the honour .. I know he may not retire at the end of the year .. but as good as he's been and that no one in the number 5 will match up to him .. I would hate to see the Collingwood number 5 hung up because I would feel safer with the number 5 on the field no matter who it is .. kinda like bucks i watchin over us.. So who will wear it next??

Your thoughts guys??

(like i said on the other thread im on a mates user name im a pies man i got banned from big footy a while back n never could make a new account)

We will never retire it...Heath Shaw a strong possibility I would reckon.

It will probably be retired for a few years as respect to the great man but if it was to be handed to a younger layer i would like Pendelbury or Swan to get it both lead by example, both play for the team, both awesome players.

Pendlebury was pick 5, wasnt he?

Make a great synergy to take over from Bucks!!

(and he's a convert from a 5-a-side sport!!!)

Give the Number 5 to Pendlebury. Pendle will be our next brownlow medalist. Remember where you heard it first.

I think Pendlebury wanted 10 and he got it. I have no doubt it will go to Heath Shaw.

Martin clarke will need a new number when he comes off the rookie list.

It would make sense to give the number five to the 'irish nathan Buckley"

clarke,pendles,shaw should get it

Get it out there the next year either a current player or someone we draft .You don't want to wait a few years and put pressure on whoever wears it next. Do it straight away and the media cant build it up over the years its in retirement by saying whose the next Buckley.

Give Ronnie Wearmouth's number to Dale Thomas.

No, like any Irishman, he'll get #17 off Burns

No, we won't retire it. Great players come and go, but we need to focus our attention on the future. If it was up to Nathan 'THE MAN' Buckley, Heath Shaw would be his first choice by a country mile. He may need a number change too because #39 isn't the most appealing number on the market.

I think he likes it, just like Kouta and his #43, Lingy and his #45, It'll be Heater and his #39..............that is until Richards leaves, then he'll get the #21!

No Need to retire it, if they could organise for Buckley to hand it over at the end of his last match, that would be great for the fans and for the club. To take it off on the ground and hand it to the player he wants to have it.

That player would have to be playing in the last game.

Would be a fitting end.

Why would that player need to play? Loewe and Kosi did it successfully, with Kosi not playing... and it made Kosi feel like he was still part of the side. In fact, that was the whole reason for it

Anyway, Dane Swan for mine

should go to someone who hasn' already established themselves wearing a number.

A draftee in the next few years (not that we'll get any early picks :) )

We will probably rest it for 1 year or so, maybe Reid or someone can get it. Thomas may be given it or H.Shaw but I like his #39. They could just give it to a draftee.

I think they should give it a break for a year and then bring it back. It shouldn't be retired forever like Darren's.

I'm still cranky they didn't retire Gavin Brown's for a year.

Was going to post exactly the same thing. :thumbsu:

Bucks will still be coaching by then... only be a decade or so behind Sheedy's record (1980-2007).

I think we should be OK, as long as we don't take him around the ground for a lap of honour, sitting next to "Crazy John"
