View Full Version : Richie Vandenberg
Saw a brief clip of VDB on Footy Classified last night. He truly bleeds brown and gold.
I've been very critical of Richie over the years - I kept hearing about what a great leader he was, but with the older playing group that we had it was hard to see the evidence of that, and in the meantime, his skills and decision making were making me cringe.
Now, however, I see what everyone was going on about and why he is a walk up start.
I think I underestimated how much "heart" is worth to a club.

Binxy,
I saw the clip too, and I must say I was very impressed with him. He certainly exudes the Brown & Gold. He doesn't play on adrenalin, he plays on pure heart!! and the LOVE of the Hawks.. Well said Vanders, I hope you are soon back and playing for us, if we had 22 players out there like him, we would win every game simply by playing with big hearts...and the love of the club...:thumbsu:

It was only a matter of time before he got hurt on Saturday. He was operating at 110% in an effort to get ready to play for the seniors again. His leadership, courage and determination is unquestionable.

Good on you for finally seeing the light Binxy.
This is what I've been posting about in regards to Vanders. There is a reason why he is our captain and it's no surprise where Hawthorn's discipline stems from. When we win a premiership, Vanders should be given full credit for his contribution.
If you ever see Vanders in person, take the time to thank him for what he has done for our club.

I saw it to, they must of done the interview in the Waverly car park as there were houses getting made in the back. I was very impressed with Vanders and I never had doubt that hes a leader but I never knew how much Hawthorn meant to him. This is another correct decision made by Clarko and hes picked the leader for us to instill love of the club and jumper for the kids weve recruted. He might not be a gun player but hes defenetely a gun leader. Well done Vanders :thumbsu:
