Watch James Hird in the last quarter. Absolutely brilliant. One of the best quarters of footy I have ever seen anyone play

I didn't see the full game when it happened so it was great to see the replay and wow, that game was just non-stop action. Watching Hird in the last few minutes was inspirational stuff.
Has there been a better game since?

Just watched it again then.
What a truly, truly awesome match that was.
Hopefully this Friday's game can get somewhere near that....though thankfully for us, Trent Carroll won't be playing on Lloyd. :thumbsu:

Great game.
Can't believe how many passengers we had on the night. :confused: Looking back at that side it wasn't a very good Essendon team.
Hird was magnificent especially in the last quarter.
Bullen was a decent contributor in the early part of '04.

Now this might get me crucified on here, but after watching the replay I DON'T think James Hird did deserve a vote.
I had this girl Im seeing over and convinced her to watch the game with me to marvel at perhaps the best game James Hird has ever played. However for the first 3 quarters, whilst he got a little bit of the ball, he wasn't that outstanding, getting beat in several contested situations.
It wasn't until the last quarter, perhaps even the last 5-10 minutes until he really turned it on and had he not kicked that last goal, perhaps may not even be something that is discussed.
Now I love James Hird just as much as the next bloke but I thought Judd, Cousins, McPhee and perhaps a few others were better for the entire game.
He won the games for us with that huge final term... What more could you ask for when casting your votes on the match?
At the end of the day, the efforts from Judd & Cousins (who got 3 & 2 from memory) did not win the game for the Eagles that night... they fell short.
Back to the game, it was one of the loudest nights at the dome. We were 0-2, we had "the Mclaran" incident on Thrusday and were staring down the barrel of a terrible season and we come out all guns blazing. Then the amazing last quarter the noise intensified.
One of my favorite games, I have the DVD and have watched it heaps!

Are you sure you've watched the game properly? McPhee while good made a fair few mistakes.
First 3 quarters were fairly even between Cousins, Judd, Kerr, Lloyd and Hird.
Last quarter Hird killed them all. The reason we won is because of Hird and Lloyd.
What about Hirds smother in the 3rd that resulted in a goal? No stat on that one.

watch to see who put the tackle on judd, to lose the ball to hird for the GOAL!!! it was none other than david hille, he put the tackle on judd to stop the eagles win lol. Our biggest slowest guy stopped judd
Yeh great can't wait to watch it tonight - love the flashbacks - the great classic games when the Bombers win - yeh I think we still had Damian "Stupido" Cupido on our list - can't remember if he actually played that night - yeh that was the famous game when Hird single handedly got us the 4 points with mis amazing last quarter & kicking the winning goal & then he ran & hugged a fan in the crowd - I was there it was sensational - I think we kicked the first 8 goals straight in the game to no score & then they hit back hard to hit the lead in the last quarter or lat in the third & then Hirdy the magician won us the game - I believe Mark "Mercs" Mercuri probably played one of his last good games for us - I think he kicked 3 goals in the first half - will be good to watch aagain & remenis
