Watching the hawks recently their tactic of standing the mark seems to have been very effective. By standing 10 metres inboard (when close to the boundary) we seem to be cutting the corridor from play particuarly the easy run past for a handball and at worst by giving the opposition player 15 clear metres along the boundary instantly putting him in two minds surely this will be cottoned onto but still shows that our coaching panel is well on top of the modern game, great sign.

I also like it, it was orginally failing when we put two on the mark one protecting the corridor and the other on the traditional mark. But now where we stand is forcing teams wide!

Yep has been great I think.
Some smart coach will come up with somethin no doubt though.
Cant see it working forever. That or it will be a trend.

I saw the same sort of tactic used by Adelaide? over the past 1 or 2 seasons and it absolutly annoyed me. Mainly because they were getting away with it and forcing the player wide to the boundary but it did make sense. I was thinking it was bordering on cheating, as they may have been only just been moving 90 degrees around from the mark. Although i am now pleased that we have caught on and seems to work quite well.

I'm not sure its a massive revelation. Clubs around the country have been doing it for years to some degree.
