View Full Version : The lads at Silvan
As most people probably already know, Gary Moorcroft, Aaron Henneman, Ben Haynes and Marc Bullen are all playing at Silvan in the YVMD Football league...
After 6 rounds they are unbeaten...
Haynes 5,6,6,5,3,12 = 37 goals
Moorcroft 4,5,7,14,7,8 = 45 goals
Henneman 3,8,3,4,1,6 = 25 goals
Bullen 1,4,1,1 = 7 goals
Traveling along nicely...

That has got to be more than he kicked at training in his whole career!

Not that he'd be around now but I thought we got rid of Moorcroft too early.
Everytime I see Haynes name all I can think of are those who called him "the next Mercuri" when he burst onto the scene. Talk about missing the mark.

I agree. After the 2000 premiership it seemed there were too many players playing like that they had one there premiership. Moorcroft was a player that always seemed hungry and wanted to give it all he had. McVeigh and Solly were another two that stood out to me during that period for the same reason.

McVeigh did not play in the 2000 Premiership. He was young and struggling for a game (Rama did get a game)
Moorcroft probably got as much out of himself as possible eventually.
Solly was a good player who was not fit in his last couple of seasons at Essendon but he was never a star.

I think you may have missed my point, that they would compete their guts out week in week out and we did not have enough of that during that period. anyway does not matter as I think the hunger is back and I am loving the way the bombers have competed and run hard over last 3 weeks

I used to play for this club and still hear a few stories. Moorcroft still suffers from a hip injury he got when he took THAT mark a few years back (and still leaps for them every week). Still too good for this comp, copped a nasty eye injury on the weekend playing VCFL interleague. Haynes is superbly skilled and was a favourite for the Magery Medal last year but go rubbed out last round in SANFL. The other undefeated team is coached by Damian Monkhorst, must be well into his 40's and still controls every ruck tap (without jumping).
Bullen must be playing in the back pocket.;)

I heard that Gary's eyeball came out of its socket
How much is that BS?
I never understood why Haynes never did anything at Essendon. He looked like he had the talent, he had a bit of pace... but was nothing.

I'd say thats all BS. He had a gash to his eye and needed an operation to repair the damage. Didn't play on the weekend and may miss another week or 2. Was rumoured to have told the club if it was a final he would have played last week.
Haynes and Henneman each kicked 10 goals on the weekend (Haynes kicked 5 in one quarter).

If Heneman keeps going the way he is, Essendon might look at him in the psd :o
Ill admit, I was one who was sad to see Moorcroft leave Essendon. I thought he was a dangerous crumbing forward who could take a good overhead mark and capable of chipping away at the scoreboard for us.

You're not alone. I always had a soft spot for Gary and I could still see a spot for him when he left. But then again, he looked a step behind at Melbourne so the club probably knew something we didn't, pribably with that back injury.

Isn't there a southern Tassie league?
