The "The Number 5 Jumper" thread got me thinking....
Which player's guernsey number did you wear as a kid?
For me.... it goes back to 1963.
After arriving from o'seas and quickly dismissing Essendon as my team of choice (the kids at school talked me into it)
I started following the Mighty Pies!
I recall the recruiting of Terry Waters from Dandenong as being a bit of a sensation and led to me wearing Number 5
Happy to see one of the greatest players of the modern era wearing it now:D
Number 6 for me,Peter McKenna
Started off with my brothers old jumper with 35 on the back for him it was diacos me Presti, then finally got my own new jumper after years of nothing and got 22 put on the back, always liked shaw and thought the crap he got was a bit over the top, infact the days he had a bad game and i was there i copt abuse too:rolleyes:. Got a heritage jumper recently and one of mates told me as a joke to put the number three on my back, so the smart arse i am i did, and now when i wear that i hear about lonie being soft but it doesnt matter when he kicks from fifty he is pretty exciting and people love it.
I was 26 all through my jnr Footy and still am now Gavin Brown was the Influence
Still happy with Ben Johnson now

Brian Taylor #9 was a favorite of mine too. Used to run around the backyard pretending to kick it to Big Brian.
Still do actually....:p

I had Daics # 35 and then on my next jumper I put #34. It wasn't for Mick McGuane but Jason Cloke when he Debuted.
Thought Jason was going to be the next big thing. Dominated in his debut year. How wrong I was.
I now have a jumper with a half picked off #34 as I'm not willing to have Jason Cloke or Alan Toovey on my back!!
If I was buying a new jumper...............10. Scott Pendlebury

26 on all jumpers - Gavin Brown of course.
If I had to put a number on today it would be a tough battle between 39 and 30. Love them both.
Can't believe I'm the only one so far! 36. The Great Savaloy

My second hand me down jumper had his number on it (got the year he was delisted). Was devasted to peel it off the when he left, he was a great player no hard feelings towards him Number 20 on the other hand...........

For me it was always the man who took the 1976 mark of the year at Vic Park....
25 - Billy Picken
(But i'm with Big G Pieman. No.10 is looking pretty "special" these days....)
Never really played footy (except about 2 games at school) and never owned a jumper. :(
30 Peter Moore then he was dead to me and went straight to 35 Mr Magic where I stayed.

I didnt have a jumper with a number on it until 3 years ago, in which I got "5"
But if I were to get a jumper now, i'd get "4"

I have a jumper with no number on it, actually had one as a kid and had no number on that either... My fave number are 8 and 33, so I might get 8 for Jimmy, but I wouldnt go Cam Cloke haha
I think Id most likely go 36, but 10 would nearly sway me!
For me started of with #35 Daics then eventually changed to #5 Bucks also had a #26 for rowdy

The oldman still hasa lace up somewhere, and one my grand mother knitted for him (thin stripes thick wool) Italian Heritage ,imagine a wollen Juventus jumper. Poor women never understood why he didnt wear it aparntly.

I wore 42 when I played right up until 1998.
My Collingwood Jersey from mid 80's to mid 90's had 42 on it. Then I had #26 and my current pies jersey has #17.

17 - Mike Richardson on my 1st jumper.
35 - The Great Man on my duffle coat.
They really were great days, catching 2 trains to get to vic park station, buying a footy record and arriving in time to sit behind the cheer squad and enjoy the second half of the ressies. Back in those days the cheer squad members were about 16 - 25 year olds, not 35 - 50 year olds.
Maybe they are the same people 20 years later .
I remember the kids in the cheer squad carrying a blanket around the ground and supporters throwing coins into the blanket and at the kids. :)
Sorry for reminising and crapping on.

26 for Rowdy - No number at the moment, but when I get around to it will be none other then No 10 for the great man himself!

Billy also took the 1974 mark of the year at the MCG v Richmond in the John Greening comeback game.

Thanks ShepBoy. I think I would have been just getting out of nappies in '74...
I still have the '76 Channel Seven Mark of the Year poster block mounted at home.
Ahhh but the memories of the Pies:
Billy's mark
Manassa's run
Twiggy's against all odds grab and goal
Daics from 35 out, in front of the old Social Club....
Brings a tear to my eye....

#35 for Daicos, #42 for Millane and #5 for Bucks. A few years ago I would've had #19 for Nick Davis or #20 for Tarrant.
If I had the choice now, I'd go #10, #23, #36 or #39.
