Well the first trailer is up for this movie.
I loved reading the book so hopefully the movie can be something really good.

Looks ok from this trailer, glad Will Smith is in it, he should play the role pretty well.

Well that doesn't explain much as to why he is alone. Looks interesting though.

A truly wonderful book.

They have made 2 previous versions of this film - The Omega Man which starred Charlton Heston made in the 70's which i have on DVD - Pretty dated but still a lot of fun ... And there was an earlier film in black & white starring Vincent price which i have never seen.

I have an odd sort of obsession with the Heston film and have probably seen it 20 times or so. Yes, it is naff, but there is something about Chuck's square jawed conservatism meets blaxploitation meets 70s counter-culture that makes for a fun, funky brew.

The Vincent Price version is pretty low budget and is actually an Italian production that plays more like "Night of the Living Dead" than anything, but is well worth a look. Price (as usual) makes it all worthwhile. There is a DVD release floating around these days that you can pick up for under a fiver.

I must admit that this version does look pretty good. But being from the director of "Constantine" does not bode greatly. Although I'm not a fan of Will Smith's movies, I AM a fan of him as an actor. A very talented fellow, across all genres who has a sincerity in his performances that it most pleasing. Considering this new version has been in the works for years with the likes of Arnie and Cruise attached at one point or another, I am glad that Will has taken on the task. Bloody hard to be the only person on screen for much of the time, with no-one to react to. He may well be able to pull it off.

Will do no justice to a wonderful book. Hollywood will screw it up as usual.

There is something i like about these 'Last man on earth' movies.

A few others spring to mind ..

The World, the Flesh and the Devil
African-American Ralph Burton (Harry Belafonte) becomes trapped underground in a cave-in while inspecting a mine in Pennsylvania. He can hear rescuers digging towards him, but after a few days they slow down and then stop completely. Alarmed, he digs his own way out. Reaching the surface, he finds a deserted world.

28 days later
An infirmary patient awakens from a coma to an empty room…in a vacant hospital…in a deserted city

The Quiet Earth
A man wakes up to find himself literally alone in the world, and goes about trying to find other survivors, as well as to find out what happened

Day of the Triffids
see 28 days later ;)
