Well done to Sachin Tendulkar on getting the record for most centruries in test matches. I don't think any current batsman comes close to him, number 1 by a big margin.

ithink he is still a couple short...Sunil Gavaskar got 32 from memory..
he just beat Bradmans 29, which in itself is a sensational effort.

Fantastic record for Sachin. Just out of interest, out of the current day players, who is his closest opponent in the number of tons made?
Gavaskar made 34, so he has a while to go yet. Probably 4 or 5 tests :) .

i think Steve Waugh is next closest, has 27? Mark Waugh has 20...not sure after that...Lara must have 15 or more I'd reckon. Phil Tufnell has 0, so he is out of it.

I read that while Tendulkar is very proud of his record, he says he does not match Bradman. Tendulkar says that while he beat the record, it took him 92 tests, Bradman only needed 52 to set the mark.
Mark Waugh will not play another teest so he's out of it.
Tendulkar will end up with at least 40 before he retires. But records like this are made to be broken averages stand the test of time.

clucas91,
That just goes to show how good the great Sir Don Bradman really was!! He made 29 centuries in 40 less tests than Sachin Tendulkar, not to mention they played on uncovered pitches back then so the quality of the wickets were nowhere near as good.
Cheers!!

What about AB, he's on 27 and also won't play anymore test cricket.
Say, clucas, did you not get added to my messenger?

Tendulkar is only in his late 20's. He has at least 6 - 8 years left. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sachin gets 40 test centuries.
