Could he be the greatest ever?
Bomber - Huge chance
Overall - Just as much a chance.

In my eyes he is. But I am a Essendon fan so I could be bias! :D

yeh I got home with 7 minutes to go on the delayed telecast, and Hird sort of said no, but then he said see how things go. The most important signal he gave was by saying how much fun footy was at the moment. That's the key for Hird, that and the prospect of team success.
Having said that, highly unlikely. He's playing with the freedom of a man who's completely happy with his decision.

Agreed. I think he's realised he's on the home straight, and giving it everything he's got left this year.
The man hardly seems mortal though.

please james, play on until Alexander and Thomas can take over the reigns.
I'd rather him retire this year with something left in the tank and in good form rather than risking another year where form can dip and injuries can ruin a season.
Nothing worse than seeing a champ retiring on his knees
Let's get to the big issue. One more year for Bolts?

Give him 3. He's too much of a gem to lose.

As Warney said it's best to go out with people asking why you would retire on form than why didnt you retire given your form. I love Jimmy as much as a straight man can but I hope he sticks to his guns and finishes on top. Would hate to see him go out playing 10 games of footy next year due to some unlucky injury and having 8 of the 10 below his best.

retire after we win the grand final!! that would be the ideal way. unfortunately where will be a few other teams out to spoil that dream for him. i reckon every club should just let essendon win, for hird!

Agree. No one deserves to go out on top more than James Hird.
I do think he could be in our best 22 for another 3 years if he wanted to though. He's a freak.
The blokes a legend. My favourite player, has been for years.
Hirdy said in an interview on SEN today that his mind is made up and won't be changed.
He said things are in place now and his decision is final
He wanted to go out on a better note than last year and that was the only reason he played on again this year.
Enjoy him while we can

The game will not be the same without him.....

I will admit to thinking that he wouldn't string more than 3-4 games together this year without injury, and would struggle.
Quite glad to say I was wrong.
There is nothing better as a neutral observer than watching a champion go to work the way he did last night.
Having said that, would you like to remember Hird's last season like this...........or like Buckley's.........
Retire this year Jim, and thanks for the memories.:thumbsu:

i was just about to say that, its definately his last year and i tell you nothing is impossible in his last year, we are currently just one game from top of the ladder, hird would be in the top 5 for the brownlow imo at the momment.
could be one ofthe most memorable retirements ever, he deserves that
