hey fella's :)
don't sack pagan fella's - stop the talk from here on in , encourage the club to re-sign him for 2 - he has put the hard yards into re-building carlton - and he deserves to enjoy the fruits of that pain
he put his career and reputation on the line and has persisted with these kids for 4 years - coping all the abuse - the laughter - people calling him shit - but he persisted with giving them game time and it has paid off
if only terry wallace would do the same thing with richmond :(
pagan has coached very unselfishly for the past 5 years, and taken the brunt of most of the pain that comes along with that - don't rock the boat, and re-sign him asap.
love the way your playing carlton:thumbsu:

Pagan finally admitted post match that we had been going too tall previously.......took him far too long to work that out !!!!!!! ( 5 seasons)........look at the team he selected v Crows.
I think we have to acknowledge the positive changes to tactics since Rats and Braddles have come to the club...........if Pagan still had it all his own way players would still be banned from switching play in the back half andwould be kicking long to a contest whenvever possible.

There's aspects of Pagan's coaching that I disagreed with, but now that he's taken a gamble and changed parts of the game plan, I'm starting to think he's definitely worth holding on to.
Think of what he did with the Kangaz 19's - he built a powerhouse team and then drafted them into the senior team as coach.
I'd prefer to hang on to him and see him get his just desserts, **** Paul Roos - what a SHIT idea!

He'll see out the end of the contract, unless something horrid happens, but will he go on beyond next season?
Regardless, his coaching has been very good recently, and great to see him implementing that fantastically exciting gameplan of ours. :thumbsu:

I'll continue to say it, Pagan is the smartest coach in the AFL at the moment. The whole rebuilding phase is brilliant and its a shame its taken this long for people to realise his brilliance.
I was for sacking Denis a few weeks back..
BUT..he is now having the Blues play not only the most attractive footy in the land, but he is LISTENING to others, hence doing away with the constant long bombs to Fev and nowhere.
We are now playing better because:
we do not look for Fev all the time, our other forward options that we all wrote about pre-season are now being used, and used well (Waite, Fisher, etc). This has negated any other coach saying "beat Fev, beat Carlton".
Denis has realised that we were too tall (and slow) before, so has done away with Kennedy / Hartlett / other talls to make way for 2 smaller types.
The re-birth of Bannister and Wiggins has been a real plus, both have played very well since coming in and have given us two hard , experienced bodies that we needed.
The form of Setanta keeps getting better to where he is now an established AFL player and if he continues improving will move into the elite bracket in a season or two.
Our kids keep shining, with Gibbs now settled into his role and loving it.
Before, when Denis HAD to go the board here looked at a few coach prospects, since then every one of them has gone down in estimation, leaving Denis safer than ever:
Voss: His indiscretion shows he is not ready to take on a responsible role..yet.
Wallace: Way worse than Denis, Wallace is still playing not to lose by much, whereas we are playing great, exciting, attacking footy.
Roos: His team is being found out, his game plan is Boredom Central..would hate to see his boring, basketball, time wasting tactics infect our bunch of exciting kids.
So, lets see how the rest of the season pans out, if we continue playing the best footy in the league, and if we grab a few more wins, and if our kids keep shining lets keep things as they are.
And lets not forget the influence the assistant coaches seem to be now having..I guess the first few months were a settling in period for all, and getting to know how far you could go by Ratts, etc. It now is obvious that the assistants are being listened to, with the results obvious.
I stand corrected, I wanted change, but see now the team is heading the right way, and how good it is to hear the commentators acknowledge our exciting game plan and attacking footy. It is really hard now to see who in this team should be dropped. The maligned Saddington, Bannister and Wiggins are all doing great.
I'll continue to say it, Pagan is the smartest coach in the AFL at the moment. The whole rebuilding phase is brilliant and its a shame its taken this long for people to realise his brilliance.
I'm tending to agree. It is absolutely unbelievable the amount of pressure this guy has been through. He is undoubtedly the best coach out there for developing younger players, which is what we need more than anything. His initial gameplan was clearly outdated, and not suited to us. Yes, he is stubborn, but he has slowly changed. Initially it was long kicking, and bombing it into the forward 50, which failed. Over the past few years he's experimented with the "popular" flooding and chip-kick tempo stuff, which he admitted we were hopeless at. With the help of some fantastic new assistants, we have developed our own gameplan - fast, direct, accountable, attacking footy, which suits our strengths i.e. forwardline. It's also a lot more fun for the younger players, and they clearly enjoy playing this way rather than the boring sub-10-goal flood-fest that seem to be the hallmark of teams like the Swans, Saints and Hawks nowdays. The crowd love this sort of footy as well, and it brings great publicity for our young team, and puts pressure on the FTA networks to actually telecast more than 3 Carlton games per half-season, rather than unltraflooding ratings disasters such as the Hawks V Saints game. :)
