why is judd still favourite for brownlow? from an unbiased opinion bartel has been amazing this season... and has the wood over judd for the brownlow at the moment you would think....

so why is judd still favourite?

I agree!
Judd is favourite because he is more flashy so stands out more, and the umpires whack off over him each night at their daily meeting

Lets not get over excited here... Chris Judd gets tagged every single week, is almost impossible to tackle, has won league contested possessions 2 years running, constantly hits targets at full pace.

Lets look at it from an even perspective, Judd is the complete player.... Bartel lacks in speed, lateral movement, agility etc. Judd has also played a consistant 3-4 seasons at the league elite, + won a premiership and brownlow medal. I don't want to put a damper on Bartel's awesome season but just a more realistic view I think.

Judd can't take a mark like our Jimmy.

bartel has also been in top 3 more games than judd this season imo... because judd has been around doing what he does best for the last 2-3 years prob favours him with the umps...

Judd is one of the best players ever to play football, Bartel is an excellent midfielder, but not in Judds class IMHO

People betting on the brownlow are not just betting on form to date but also what they expect for the rest of the year. At the end of his career (assuming he maintains his standards) Judd will be regarded as one of the best players of all time. He is pure silk. On this basis, even if Jimmy's form this year has been better to date (and this is not a given), people think Judd is more likely to sustain his form than Jimmy.

Judd is one of those rare players (ala the great Gary Ablett) that even opposition fans enjoy watching for the amazing things he does on a footy field. While I love Jimmy, Judd >>>>>> Jimmy. To say otherwise is simply a case of heart over head IMHO.

True true. Agree completely. But based on the performance today, what about this equation:

Gazza Jr. >>>>>> Judd

Not to take away from young Jimmy who has been awesome this season, i reckon if there was an open pick between Judd and Gaz Jr, clubs will at least have to think a bit before making the call. Few others would have that mantle in the comp......

Bartel doesn't even get a tag and picks up a lot of cheap possessions, none of which Judd get.

Yeah....maybe 5 seconds...and then choose Judd!!!

GAJ is my favourite Cats player, but Judd is clearly the best player in the comp IMHO (see previous post).

Get a clue.Bartel uncontested possessions in the backhalf with nobody near him from opposition. Judd has a player up his ass 100% of the game.

Courageous Jimmy is awesome. Nobody takes a better mark backing into a pack than Jimmy.

Defensively Jimmy is a better player, but Judd is an awesome midfielder and better than Judd in just about every other aspect of the game.

Did anyone see Jimmy do a huge leap and hit the ball out straight to ablett who dished it off to Stokes who scored a Goal. Jimmy ruckman of the year!! :p

Bartel works very hard to get back and fill a space. If the opposition isn't going to tag him that's their problem. That doesn't make him any less of a player though.

I'm not taking anything away from Judd, he is the best in the business. But to criticise Bartel like that shows a distinct lack of football knowledge.

Judd should be Brownlow favourite because he's a proven vote-winner.

Just to remind people that the OP was saying that Bartel should be favourite for the Brownlow ahead of Judd based on this years performances.
The original post was not about who is the better player. I think everyone would acknowledge Judd is a better player, and will be regarded so at the end of his career.
But this year in terms of Brownlow, it's pretty damn close.

Jimmy is top 10 in the comp for contested posessions. Hope this helps.

so until you do your opinions are about as irrelevant as moral conscience in the west coast footy club

hell yeah, on yesterdays form

Judd is fav based on last years form, the bookies have to have a starting point

Jimmy is holding his form well atm, but we're only half way

From what I hear most Weagles players have someone else (or something)up their ass 100% of the time.........
Sorry - but thats a shocking call. Bartel plays as the opposition let him. So does Judd.

While Jimmy also does a lot in the centre of the ground, I think that's pretty close to true at the moment.

Gary Ablett Jnr, anyone?

Yes indeed!
Suspect he will poll a LOT better than in recent years because he's learnt how to evade a lot of the heavy tagging put on him in recent seasons.

Jimmy will probably go a little better though, because Jnr isn't that popular because he tends to back chat a bit more than Jimmy, who seems prepared to just get on with it this year ;)

Judd is one of the best players ever to play football - short memory board!

Okay he is pretty good but has to do it for about another 7-8 seasons before he can be considered one of the best. Probably will too...but right now he has a LONG way to go.

if gary jnr got as much touches as jimmy did he would be the favourite for the brownlow. bartel gets the most touches but doesnt break the packs and runs the ball like ablett judd. the reason why judd is still better and would win the brownlow is because he runs the ball and breaks packs like ablett along with he gets as much touches as jimmy, and judd is also a umpires pet:)

and judd is also a umpires pet:)

Scott McLaren: Hey Chris, got a proposition for ya. How about every time we let you get away with holding the ball, that's one Brownlow vote we don't give you?

Chris Judd: Well... I already have a Charlie. Deal.

jimmy bartel has been a consistent performer for the last few years and this year has taken his game to a new level. Although he does get quite a few uncontested "cheap" marks he also isn't afraid to jump into a pack and win contested possessions. he is very courageous and will back into a pack any time needed. i think that gary ablett will probably steal a few of his votes because he is a flashier player who's overall impact is more damaging. not taking anything away from bartel but chris judd is a far more damaging player than bartel. judd consistently breaks tags to have 20+ possessions that hurt opposition sides. i have watched a fair few geelong games this year and although i really like the way bartel plays, there are few who don't like the way judd plays

so far this year judd>bartel
