I think King, Playfair, and Gardiner for starters. May be wrong though.

OMG No!!! We'd better re-sign them ASAP

Mooney.

Ottens? Didn't he get a 3 year deal when he joined?

Varcoe - he would have received a 2 year deal (AFLPA minimum*) when drafted; the same situation as all the 2005 draftees: Stokes, Gamble, West and Owen.

*a club can still delist a draftee after just one season but must pay him out for the second year of the contract.

By my records:

Gardiner, Johnson (both Dave and Steve), King, Ottens, Playfair, Spencer, Stokes, Varcoe, West, Gamble and Owen are out of contract. Of course, there are the rookies as well (Reynolds and Grima).

This is gonna be a big problem for the cats actaully if Ottens, Mooney, S Johnson, Varcoe etc. are out of contract. The only t hing i can say is that we will save money from Playfair, Gardiner and King

Will Reynolds get another year on the list?

Hopefully not.

Not because I'm a cold bastard, but there is no real justification for us to upgrade him (which we'll have to do if we want him) given his physical state (coming off knee's is always risky) and what he delivered to date (which is not all that much).

We can argue that the club "owes" him another year to really showcase himself, but in this day and age, we can't award list spots just like that for the aforementioned reasons.

No it's not. This is a yearly occurrence.

Youd imagine Otto will take a bit of a cut.

Mooney and Johnno will stay on the same sorta contracts.

Varcoe will only recieve a little pay rise. Its only going to be his 3rd year and wont command huge sums.

Especially with Grima hopefully being upgraded.

What's your thinking here?

Keep king for two more years as a backup ruckmen & groom him for a ruck coaching role.

Gamble - I can't see him getting into the team in the next 2 years but is too good a player to delist. I think we should either resign him or trade him to somewhere he will get more of an opportunity.

If King can play out the rest of the season without getting injured I don't see why we shouldn't keep him on the list. Granted he's struggled this year, both with form and fitness, but there's still time for him to prove himself. If Blake or Ottens get injured, we might just need him. I have been suggesting for some time that next year we draft the best ruckman available to us, but perhaps King has one or two years left on the list - even if he spent most of that time in the VFL?

Look at who he supports (Melbourne) and what King did to him (kick to White's chops).

Todays sun says that Mooney and Steve Jonno are out of contract. There is about 15 in all. The club wanted to wait on them all, but that might have to change I think. GAJ and Jimmy are not. There will be no talks during the finals if we make it.

I hate David Parkin but he said we need 3.

13 Jun 2007, 13:06
And I think that's right. You need 3 decent ruckman on your list because ruckman are susceptible to injury. Going into a GF you don't want 1 of your 2 decent ruckman under a cloud or suspended.

At the moment we obviously have Ottens, Blake and King. Unless King comes back and breaks into the senior side I think we can forget him. West is coming along but probably won't debut this season barring disaster.

That all equates to drafting/trading for another ruckman at the end of this season.

Next year west will be in his third year and would be ready for a run. If king plays on we will have 4 ruckman that could play AFL footy. Maybe we could rookie list a ready made ruckman under that new afl rule. THen if we do get a major injury he can be promoted?

Is Westy going to make it? From what I've seen of him, he looks ok. Gets his fair share of taps, and does his bit around the ground. Nothing brilliant yet, but I can see potential.

Alot of people were saying the same thing about Blake in the last few years.

Ruckmen and all big men in general have a bit of an unknown factor about them. They generally take much longer to mature to AFL standards and can often burn out much quicker as well.

Gamble has the potential to be a very good player, wouldn't mind seeing him played in the backline as I agree it will be very hard to break into the forward line, but the is a shortage of quality mid sized backs.

Most defiantly. I'm a bit wrap for westy. That is one major part of his game. He can move around very well. Last week was a big learning experience for him against Minson and Skipper, and id be happy to say he did a good job againse them both. He has a lot to develop, however the signs are there. He is versatile to!

Mooney - Priority

In order to elevate Grima, we would need to delist 4 players (Reynolds on ROokie list so doesn't count). Out of that group you would hope kingy retires, so we can. If not someone like Callan or Owen wouldn't be feeling to comfy at the moment.

I'd like to keep King on a 1 year contract. Personally I think
1. Gardiner
2.Playfair
3.Spencer

Are all must delists.
I think we should trade a least one of:
Byrnes- Too wasteful but maybe a team lacking small forwards might go for him
Callan - Not getting the opportunities he deserves
DJ - Far too good to be kicking the dew
Enright - Good player that has poor disposal (would want a good offer)
Tenace - See Enright

I reckon that we will be hard pressed trading Byrnes for anything of value. He should also be a definite delisting with the other three.

Yeah but any player you are considering delisting should be shopped around 1st as even a 3rd round pick upgrade by one position is better than the nothing you get for a delisting.
