I think cook is going to be good, but he wont live up to Pontings record.
Cook's batting is soporific. KP

Cook will score more runs than Ponting, and anyone else in cricket history.

He may well do but Courtney Walsh was leading wicket taker & he wasn't in the same league as Lillee, Marshall, Holding or even Ambrose.

His footwork is suspect though. Gets himself into trouble when he's on the front foot. If he can touch that up he'll be a fine player.

Laughable.
Laughable.
Who cares if he does, he's soporific and not a patch on KP or Punter anyway.

good solid player, still young and improving but apart from 1 century in the Ashes i thought the Aussies had him covered.

Mate, he will end up with a better average and a lot more runs in his career than KP will.
If he keeps going this way you would think he'll be a chance to get the most runs in Tests ever, but it is a slim chance.

I can't see him averaging better than KP. And KP is miles better talent wise. As for the excitement factor, just don't bother comparing.

K.P is the best batsmen in the world imo and my favorite. But cook is very good not a fast batsman which is always good for an opener. you don't know whats around the bend for cook he may one day be the best batsmen in the world as he is much better then any australian up and coming batsmen

Al Cook is a gun, so many 100s and he's only 22.
What a star
Laughable.
How many Test runs did Punter have at the same age?
I'm pretty sure he won't go down as one of the top 10 bats ever but he has every chance of becoming England's leading record Test scorer & from there he could definitely have a chance of the overall record.
Just a remorseless run maker who got his chance early.Doesn't play big shots, just looks to build.

Cook is lucky that he's starting his career when bowling is so weak around the cricket world.
I mean people are getting giddy over him bashing the club standard west indies and ignoring that he's been faced with one world class attack in his career and failed badly with an average of just 29.

hussey yousef and ponting are all miles ahead of kp and have the runs on the board to prove it.

Yousuf is very good but maybe has scored the bulk of his runs on the sub-continent to be in the same league as Punter or KP. He got exposed a bit in SA conditions. Hussey would be well up there as well.

There's only one 'world class' attack in the world? Sounds like America with their world series.

Yeah well if Aussie is the only world class bowling attack that would suggest that Punter never has to face world class bowling ever.

That is a valid point but the West Indian attack is very poor. And he had a double failure in the last test.

As oppose to Pietersen?
Surely we can make up some faux excuses for Cook also

Why not the same one used in the NS thread- dead rubber, he didn't care.....
Problem is, Cook seems to care about his country....
