the guy is a gun, quite clearly shown in his performances last game gainst the power. i was living in ireland when he left - there was absolute carnage. but it looks as if he made the right choice

any thoughts on the man?

Still makes some mistakes, but his development this year has been excellent. Who knows what sort of player he will turn into over the next couple of seasons.

Going from strength to strength this year. Is learning to play all around the ground, not just down back.

Really love his passion and determination for footy, the club and the contest. Was great to see him slot the first goal, was even better to see him kick the last one.

I wonder if we look at him with a different eye than normal players because of who he is and where he has come from. Maybe we rate him ahead of where he truly is? But then I don't care because he is such a joy to watch.

How can you not love him? He's absolute beauty to watch, can't recall seeing anyone with the enthusiasm that he has. His improvement has been very good and I like him playing further up the ground in the ruck. Hopefully he kicks a few more goals for us this year, his celebrations are fantastic. :D

but yeh he was like the chris judd of hurling. he was young and was the best in the land. imagine if judd packed up and moved to america to play a sport like ice hockey or some bulshit. yeh there wud b uproar :p

If he continues his current rate of development he will be almost impossible to stop in 2-3 years time.

He has already shown he can match the best forwards as a defender.
He is showing that he can compete against some of the best rucks going around, and should it be required, he would make a handy forward.
His ground level work is very good for a big guy, and the one thing that he has had going for him since game .......lets say number 2...:D is that he backs himself.

For a guy that has played .....? 4 years of Aussie rule in his life.......and less than 25 senior games he is a star........wait till he has played 100 games....the mind boggles.

this may be the only time I ever agree with a carlton supporter but I really think that Setanta O'hailpin is truly underated.
Basically everyone who does't go for the blues calls him a hack
He is a pretty good player considering he has hardly played much footy in his life.
Good luck with him

Yeah i watched a game on tv couple years ago i think it was like your grand final or something....It's like the remixed hockey type game yeah??

I knew he was a good player at it, but didn't realise they rated him that highly.....So do all Irish hurling people hate carlton?

I've seen enough. I'll call it as it is. Setanta is going to be a star without doubt. Some of his work at the centre bounce V Lade was amazing. Has a huge vertical leap, and was flicking the ball all over the place. He seems to be able to do it all. Ran into the middle and provided a link option, and then pumped it 55m onto the chest of a leading forward. This guy is an extreme talent, and is progressing faster than any player I have ever seen. :)

Some of his work at the centre bounce V Lade was amazing.
And add to that he embarrassed Lade with his work rate. Lade had given up trying to run with him and was sometimes 100m away from contests that Setanta was involved in.

Full back, Ruck, is there anything he can't do?

I like seeing his celebrations full stop. When he taps the ball out he celebrates, when he punches the ball away from a forward he celebrates, when he runs in a straight line he celebates.

I love it.

Unorthodox. He doesn't just palm the ball at ruck contests, he either thumps it, or flicks it down fast. Everything he does is done with attitude and passion. He also seems to enjoy roving his own taps. :)

While I was originally in favour of him playing fullback, over the last few weeks I have turned and would now rather see him developed into a ruckman. Some of his tap work was great and we could really use his agression around the ground. I really think he could be an elite ruckman. Also, his stuff ups aren't as costly as they are on the last line of defence. Hopefully we leave him there for a while.

How can you not love this guy? He's unreal. His passion, enthusiasm and work rate/ethic are a credit to him and I dare say it has rubbed off on some of his team mates. Certainly Gerard Healy agrees with me LOL. Agree that the move to the ruck has been great, credit to all involved there. With his size and athleticism, he could be anything. He's exceeded my epectations thus far this year so hopefully he can continue his rapid development.

Most people have summed it up here pretty well.
The big irishman = Exciting :D

It is great he is being played in a range of different roles.

Why make him purely a dour defender when he could potentially be another Goodes? Why decide on his fate so early?

We will have a good idea of where his best position is in due course, in the meantime let's develop a versatile 198cm monster.

He has that 'something' special, a competitive edge that will make him one of our most important players, not just a good ordinary flanker.

Definitely an exciting player and showing much better skills as each week goes past.

I cant wait to see Aisake get into the squad
