We had no Clement, Presi, Harry and R Shaw. We needed some experience in the backline and we know Wakelin has more experience then every other guy in the backline today

Slow, yes. But he did what he had to do and Neitz finished the day kicking 0 goals

I would play him next week (week after I guess)

Maxwell had Neitz, Wakes got the resting ruckman and was serviceable.

Yep, Wakes was far from our worst today. And played pretty well on whoever he was on during the day.

And who Wakes played on was an illustration of how stretched we were in the backline today. Wakes was playing on Neitz until they moved Johnson forward which meant that Wakes had to go to him because our only other tall defender (Maxwell) wasn't big enough.

Wakes made the best of a difficult situation.

We don't have enough duds. So the hate is placed on someone else. Wakelin foresaw this and was pushing for Iacobucci, Morrison X2, Hall, etc. to stay on the list.

I actually have a lot of respect for Wakes. Its evident that he's been told by the club that he does not feature in the clubs future, but he's stuck around as an understudy, performs really well for Willi and doesn't do too many things wrong when he plays for the Pies. He also helps with the young guys they all love him.

Exact same thing happened to Darren Gaspar and he walked.

Agreed. He has said as much on CTV. He knows where he is at and he is a role model in his last season with the Pies. Gives his all and isn't deserving of the negativity. A good bloke doing his all for the CFC! Respect!

i must have been at a different game then !!!

Wakelin was an absolute disgrace, he was constantly beaten, didnt run, his kicks missed targets, his decision making was poor

barring Stanley (forgiven for first game) and Rocca, Wakelin was hands down worst on ground by a mile

I think people should just chill out and recognise that we were severely undermanned down back. Had to happen eventually!

Presti, Clement, Rhyce, Harry...even Lonie and even possibly Jack Anthony. We are literally a bees dick from throwing our first year lambs to the slaughter! Coxie is the last medium defensive option left and he's coming back from injury too!! Fugger me.

Neitz is the sort of power forward that is strong and fast enough to make Presti look slow. The likes of him and Richo can do this. Wakes did his very best in the time he spent on him.

The reality is, we got it forward enough times, but couldn't buy a goal with the exception of one or two contributors. We had to make the most of our opportunities, had the stock to do so, but didn't.

I don't like Wake hate to be fair. Yeah, it's his last year and he's on his last legs. Ask him and he'd admit it. He's on the list so as not to #### up a kid like Nathan Brown's confidence for life, which unfortunately he is having to do. But remember, he has been a loyal servant since we took a punt on him and deserves a bit more respect than that currently being dished out.

No hate from me. He's been a really fine player for the club.

He didn't play well yesterday, but wasn't our worst either. The way the ball was coming through the middle with no pressure in the first quarter it was no surprise his man was taking marks on him. The disappointing thing for me was how he turned the ball over by foot a couple of times. He's always been a really good kick, Wakes. Just looked a little rusty and off-pace.

But with Presti, JC, and Harry out he becomes one of our most important players. If the old fella can't stand up and play some decent football over the next month, we could be looking at 0-4.

Let's hope he still has enough juice in the tank for a good month of footy.

I'd hope we'd get some tall timber back before a month is over.

I have much respect for Wakelin has served our club well and is a top bloke. I dont know what some people expected Wakelin to do on monday, only veteren defender surrounded by young guys, and with the ball constantly coming in...not superman, there is only so much defenders can do..its the job of the midfield to prevent the ball from being kicked down there in the first place.

I am sure he is gonna have a few tough but good weeks, he will find some form when its needed and its needed now, I am not too worried about Wakelin.

FIGJAM and Palmer Stout are on the ball and there are a few others who have followed their lead. He's been a very good servant for this footy club. I will remember him as a good defender who rarely got beaten and always put his body on the line, and as a person he has my utmost respect, he was a true professional and gentleman (on and off the field) but he did have his moments with Alistair Lynch going back a few years ago.

Wakelin has been serviceable and valuable over the years but he knows his role in the team. He'd get called only when where really short of defenders. I think also Wakes has accomplished his career here as his kicked a goal with us and his been a contributor over the years. I think it would be wise for him to retire at the end of the year as it'll be the same scenario as it is now for him.

He won't have a choice. He can go retire or he'll be pushed. Either way, the last half of the season is Wakes farewell tour.

Yeah, when he goes he will automatically be replaced by a total gun 18 year old who will never dance on his own dikk with golf shoes in the back line! Easy to find a 200 game defender, geez he has been lucky to be such a crap player and be employed as a professional footballer for 13 years, well done Wakes you fooled all those coaches into thinking you were a quality defender.
Personifies The Club, pride and hard work are what will eventually drag this team, kicking and screaming,to a premiership. Not flash young 20 gamers, but old vets who are willing to stick around like Wakelin. The day in the next few years when this club wins another premiership blokes like Harry O, Stanley and Heater can drop to their knees and and give their premiership medallions to aces like Wakelin, Lockyer and Burns.;)

here here . look Wakes is the first to admit he's past his best and he has stated on radio that this year he was kept on the list to help develop the younger guys and would only be needed if injuries occured. With all the young blokes weve got it's a very shrewd move to have a bloke with his expierience being on the ground at willi helping these blokes and his input cannot be understated . So you knockers go join richmond where they eat there own we dont want it or need it in a developing club keep it positive and exactly what DWil6 said respect cos Wakes as much as anyone deserves it .Wakes will be forever remebered as a class act at collingwood both as a footballer and a person which is more than any of you knockers have done for collingwood.

I thought that Wakes played ok. I'd keep him to v. Hall. Maxy played a good game v Melbourne.
