I tried posting this on another board but they were all too stupid.

Can you tell me out of the SANFL teams which are the more demographically and socioeconomically affluent and which are not?

Can you also tell me which teams have money but come from a poorer area and vice versa?

Greatly appreciated.

Traditionally the likes of Norwood and Sturt are you white collar teams from the eastern suburbs, which is generally considerd a higher income area.

The northern suburbs are more blue collar. Teams like Port and Centrals can be put in this category...to a lesser extent North Adelaide.

Centrals are apparently doing really well off field, so too is North Adelaide.

Glenelg, South, Eagles and West you probably couldnt definitively classify. But as I have them listed there are probably their rankings from high-low in terms of socioeconomics.

Here's a shot, in rough order of afluent areas, largely based on where their grounds are:

Upper class: Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg
Middle class: Woodville-West Torrens, North Adelaide, West Adelaide,
Lower class: South Adelaide (Noarlunga), Port Adelaide, Centrals (Elizabeth)

I'm FAR from an expert, but my rough guess on the wealth of the particular clubs would be: Port, Norwood, Glenelg, Centrals, WWT, North, Sturt, South, Wests.

But I'm probably very wrong.

I would put North, South and Centrals at the top of the most wealthy list followed by the Eagles.

A far cry from the Port, Norwood, West and Sturt days.

Anything to offer, other than this burst of wisdom?

This would be the teams in order of wealth currently:

Central District - based at Elizabeth, they make a killing with the pokies in the lower socio-economic areas in the expanding northern suburbs. Would be the richest SANFL club by some margin with a large membership base.

North Adelaide - have recently become very well off with a little help from millionaire businessman Rob Gerrard and a couple of pokies parlours set up in the lower socio-economic areas around Grand Junction Road. Where their home ground is at Prospect and around North Adelaide is a very well to do area.

South Adelaide - the southern suburbs are similar to the north as far as they are expanding and cheaper than the inner city areas. South are doing pretty well financially and given time would be expected to reach the heights of Central. They only moved to Noarlunga about 10 years ago, but it should reap rewards in the long term. Unfortunately have a very low membership base.

Port Magpies - based in the outer north-west. Traditionally a working class area. The Magpies have struggled a bit financially since the inception of Port Power, but still have the largest membership base.

Eagles - another club with a steady income from their pokies set up on Port Road. Directly west to north-west of the city to the coast with the home based at Woodville which is middle to working class. The coastal areas of Henley Beach & Grange are quite well off.

West Adelaide - always do well out of their pokies based at Richmond Oval which I believe they own. Working class area with factories on the eastern side of the oval. They have never attracted a large membership base ranking down with South.

Glenelg - based in a very well to do area on the coast just south of Adelaide. Glenelg don't make a lot of money, but do well enough with their well set up convention centre. Have struggled since the Crows were formed.

Norwood - have very recently sold some real estate for millions and need to set up for the future. Have made large losses in recent years and are without club rooms. Pokies set up is in progress and should get back to a power club soon. Based at the Parade which is a very well to do area, going out to the expanding north-eastern suburbs which are much like the northern and southern areas of Adelaide.

Sturt - based in the south eastern suburb of Unley. Very well to do area, but the club has struggled financially for some time. They now have a pokies set up on Unley Road and should regain strength financially soon.

What else do you want to know? North and Centrals own 2 pubs each, plus clubrooms with plenty of pokie money. By all reports South are doing fantastically well, and could be the new super power in the next few years. The Magpies have just bought a pub, but need to do more. Sturt and Norwood are struggling, and West which always did well financially is getting left behind by the big 3.

holden sponsorship + pokies = centrals lots of money :D which is ironic seein as they come from the lowest socioecomic area out of the lot

I reckon glengowan did pretty bloody well there. Some may think South are poor because they don't get people to the games but they have a nice pokie set up and have been able to shell out a lot of money for relatively average recruits. North have gone from the basketcase of the league in 03 - extremely close to folding - to the second richest in the league behind Centrals. We have basically borrowed their blueprint.

Sturt and Norwood have struggled big time in recent years off the field, but they are starting to get their finances sorted out and will hopefully get back on track and lose their cash concerns.

I though Glenelg would be going pretty well with their recent redevelopments. They also have a few pokies which always seems to be very popular.

Its really not coincidence that the Working class clubs are doing the best.
